We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Discipline Lead - GIS to join our growing engineering team in Birmingham. This position within our Environmental team will suit a committed and ambitious GIS professional who can demonstrate strong leadership and interpersonal skills combined with commercial awareness and the ability to play their part in growing a dynamic high-performance team.

 

The Discipline Lead - GIS will be accountable for the design delivery of allocated civil engineering work packages, ensuring:

 

  • This role requires considerable professional experience and expertise in order to manage complex or non-standard scenarios.
  • This may include non-standard policy development projects
  • To ensure that competent engineering resources are available for the successful delivery of single and multi-disciplinary design projects. Technically sound design solutions are produced, including all associated reporting and cost estimating, to programme and within budget
  • Management of overall discipline capability in the UK.
  • Responsible for the discipline strategy, recruitment and development of staff
  • Maintaining competence framework
  • Good relationships are maintained with all external parties to enhance the reputation of the company

 

Main Duties

 

The responsibilities will include the day-to-day development, establishment and implementation of GIS in our UK business specifically for our Environmental team, supporting across EIA, Ecology, Landscape, and other disciplines as required. The role will require the GIS Lead to engage with, support and input to the Technical Excellence team to develop GIS within SYSTRA’s Digital Engineering strategy.

 

  • Managing all aspects of the delivery of GIS on multidiscipline engineering projects.
  • Setting up and developing a virtual GIS team within the UK business, including the management of resources, operations and technology as required to develop the GIS resource within SYSTRA.
  • Setting the strategy for GIS delivery within the UK business, whilst collaborating with colleagues from France.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues from different organisations and disciplines to deliver GIS for all projects.
  • Working in a diverse workplace that brings together professionals from across disciplines to develop client and people centred solutions for the problems faced, with a focus on integrity and honesty in everything we do.
  • The role will involve contact with external clients, the public and many internal colleagues; good communication skills and presentation are essential.

 

Experience:

 

  • Degree in a relevant environmental subject
  • Proven expertise in ESRI ArcMap and ArcGIS/ArcGIS Pro software packages
  • Knowledge of CAD software including AutoCAD and Bentley Microstation
  • Strong cartographic/data management skills
  • Knowledge of information management processes and best practice
  • Knowledge of web and mobile GIS solutions
  • Ideally have an Environmental Science background
