SYSTRA are looking to expand our Signature Team in the UK, working on high profile infrastructure projects such as TransPennine Route Upgrade and HS2, we are building on our 50 years of success in the UK by growing our team and looking for passionate people to deliver projects across our portfolio.
We are now seeking to strengthen and grow our Engineering team in our Birmingham, Manchester, and York offices, initially working as part of our Main Works Civils High Speed 2 project team, by recruiting an experienced Civil/Highways Engineer.
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a range of experience within the Civil Engineering/Transportation/Infrastructure sectors.

The Senior Engineer will be accountable for the design delivery of allocated civil engineering work packages, ensuring:
- Delivery of all the specified project outcomes on time, within budget and to the client’s specifications
- Project requirements are fully met
- Technically sound design solutions are produced, including all associated reporting and cost estimating, to programme and within budget
- Compliance with all relevant technical standards
- Advice and guidance is provided for staff, and professional development is actively pursued
- Good relationships are maintained with all external parties to enhance the reputation of the company
Main Duties
Working in collaboration with our designers and contract partners, the Senior Engineer will be involved in a variety of tasks such as:
- Act as design production lead of work packages
- Lead technical excellence in delivery of designs
- Ensure technically sound solutions are produced meeting client specifications, including all associated reporting and cost estimating, to programme and within budget.
- Provide technical guidance to engineers, graduates
- Develop innovative solutions to design problems
- Responsible for mentoring and development of staff
- Responsible for the allocation of work to designers including utilisation
- Collaborate with international technical design teams in the delivery of designs.
- Responsible for the production of all design to resolve client challenges
- Responsible for the delivery of CDM and design compliances
- Contributing to long term technical development of the office by application of new techniques, procedures and practices.
- Develop a strong focused client relationship
- Effective management of and response to project related correspondence
- Acting as representative within the Technical Directorate and Production Centres in the wider SYSTRA Group,
- Assist and support the Principal Engineer where required
Requirements
- You will hold a Batchelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or other relevant subject area)
- Ideally you will be working towards or nearing chartered engineer status (CENG, MICE)
- You must have proven post graduate experience working in a design environment on a range of civil engineering infrastructure projects that could include, highways, drainage, developments, rail or civil infrastructure
- Experience of using AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Ideally you will have experience of OpenRoads Design Software
- You will have excellent communication skills
