SYSTRA is looking to expand our Signature Team in the UK, working on high profile infrastructure projects such as HS2 and Trans-Pennine Upgrade, we are building on our 50 years of success in the UK by growing our team and looking for passionate people to deliver projects across our portfolio.


We are now seeking to strengthen and grow our Environmental and Engineering team in our Birmingham office, initially working as part of our Main Works Civils High Speed 2 project team, by recruiting an experienced GIS Consultant.


The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a range of experience within the Civil Engineering/Transportation/Infrastructure sectors.

Main Duties:


Working in collaboration with our designers and contract partners, the GIS Consultant will be involved in a variety of tasks including, but not limited to:


  • Producing and managing GIS deliverables on multidiscipline engineering projects, and will be required to apply advanced GIS skills, principles and knowledge to undertake and coordinate complex GIS analysis and development, including web/mobile solutions, environmental spatial map outputs, data conversions/editing/capture, automated workflows, reprojecting datasets and spatial database management in order to support programme needs.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues from different organisations and disciplines to deliver common GIS support for the project.
  • Working in a diverse workplace that brings together professionals from across disciplines to develop client and people centred solutions for the problems faced, with a focus on integrity and honesty in everything we do.
  • The role requires a mix of office- and site-based work and will involve working away from home as and when necessary, so travel flexibility and a full driving licence are important factors. The role will involve contact with external clients, the public and many internal colleagues, so good communication skills and presentation are essential. 
  • Issue of document transmittals and management of electronic records.
  • Use of Projectwise (or similar) to manage document transfer and receipts.
  • Record keeping and routine admin work as well as other duties assigned by the manager from time to time.
  • Control and management of the up-to-date version of specific documents




  • Degree in a relevant environmental subject
  • Proven expertise in ESRI ArcMap and ArcGIS/ArcGIS Pro software packages
  • Knowledge of CAD software including AutoCAD and Bentley Microstation
  • Strong cartographic/data management skills
  • Knowledge of information management processes and best practice
  • Knowledge of web and mobile GIS solutions
  • Ideally have an Environmental Science background
