SYSTRA's ambition is to be the signature expertise reference in our industry, and to support this we are now recruiting a Modern Methods of Construction Lead to help ensure we are at the forefront of the latest trends in mobility, engineering and construction. The role can be based from any of our key UK offices (principally Manchester, Birmingham, York, London) with opportunity for hybrid/flexible working.

We have a rich history in MMC dating back over 20 years, both in the UK and internationally so this role will be at the forefront of driving continuous change and development to provide improved communication of our capabilities and expertise, and to significantly bolster SYSTRA’s approach internally to upskilling and enabling MMC solutions within our projects.

The MMC Lead will also work with our construction and engineering partners and internal experts as well as drive forward digital solutions and services, seeking out innovative technologies and market disruptors to provide SYSTRA with a unique market advantage.  It provides a fantastic opportunity to engage across the UK/IRE business and globally to make a major contribution to SYSTRA Ltd’s strategic direction. This is a transversal role that will require you to interface with disciplines across our engineering practice, project management, sales and digital teams. It will also require engagement with experts from across SYSTRA group globally and to develop strong relationships with external industry experts and research organisations.

 

Main Duties:

The role will report to the Head of Innovation and will provide regular briefings to the Engineering Management team.  

  • Drive thought leadership content and highlight our existing and current MMC activities
  • Evidence practical application across our projects, collating uses cases and establishing measurement of outcomes to demonstrate value
  • Provide solution development though direct engagement with engineering and project teams
  • Building marketing collateral and demonstrating value to clients
  • Engaging in research and development activities with publicly and privately funded schemes, contractors and research bodies.
  • Drive the SYSTRA strategy for MMC based on accelerated roll out of MMC across the practice and education of interfaces such as PMO/Sales Teams, including identification and management of budget resource and programme requirements.
  • Build close working relationship with SYSTRA Ltd and SYSTRA Group innovation teams to find areas where SYSTRA can innovate in MMC
  • Work with bid and project delivery teams to grow the MMC approach for relevant opportunities and projects, including liaison with international centres of expertise and seek opportunities for implementation
  • Identify strategic contractor and research partners and develop relationships for collaborative development of MMC concepts

 

Experience required:

  • Ideally Degree Qualified (e.g. MSC, BSC, MENG, BENG) and Chartered Professional - Membership of professional institute with proven experience in the field of engineering, MMC, DFMA, construction.
  • Accreditation or certification to recognised bodies
  • Membership or participation on UK / international committees, forums or steering groups
  • In-depth knowledge of Modern Methods of Construction, DFMA and similar
  • Knowledge and experience of R&D and current developments in this space, ideally linked to rail infrastructure, but also other sectors, highways, general infrastructure construction
  • Knowledge of large infrastructure delivery (Rail, transport generally and infrastructure), and the challenges encountered that MMC approach can benefit
  • Knowledge of and existing relevant relationships with R&D financing mechanisms and R&D bodies (private organisation, universities etc)
  • Significant experience positioning MMC capability and experience to evidence in Tenders and generally via company sales and marketing approaches (website content, case studies, value statements and evidence, company presentations etc).
  • Deep analytical skills with excellent understanding of the market and its various stakeholders are key elements in defining, challenging and effectively deploying roadmaps on the associated business plans.
  • Curious, open, good communicator, you are also sensitive to the needs of operational staff (support for offers, content creation / differentiating method)
  • Sensitive to the optimisation of innovation financing circuits in order to increase your means
  • Integrity and high professional standards in line with the Engineering council
  • Exhibit a zero-tolerance approach to unprofessional, unethical or unsafe behaviours
