We are now seeking to strengthen and grow our Engineering team in our Birmingham office, initially working as part of our Main Works Civils High Speed 2 project team, by recruiting an Assistant Digital Engineer (BIM).


The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a range of experience within the Civil Engineering/Transportation/Infrastructure sectors.

Main Duties of the role:


The key responsibility for an Assistant Digital Engineer and Modeller role is to support the Discipline Lead, Digital Engineering Manager and Production Team(s) in day to day development, establishment and implementation of BIM in our Birmingham Office on the HS2 Project. The Assistant Digital Engineer and Modeller is required to possess strong computer CAD/BIM and technical skills to support and oversee the production of 3D/2D dimensional models, technical and quality checking and control, coordination and constructability analysis.


Working in collaboration with our designers and contract partners, the Assistant Digital Engineer and Modeller will be involved in a variety of tasks such as:


  • Support the Discipline Lead, Digital Engineering Manager and Production Team(s) in day to day BIM implementation activities.
  • Provide progress and performance updates on fortnightly and monthly basis
  • Support the deployment (hardware and software) and provide hands-on BIM software training for Project team members. 
  • Oversee and develop where applicable analysis, calculations and 3D Design models and extract 2D geometry for review and submission
  • Implementation of CDM and design requirements
  • Produce 3D/2D dimensional models required for drawing preparation, reporting and presentation.
  • Prepare engineering drawings e.g. general arrangements, layouts, profiles, sections etc., for Infrastructure and Transportation Project(s).
  • Ensure model(s) are delivered in accordance with the agreed level of information need, TIDP, MIDP and CDE protocol. 
  • Perform quality assurance and control checks on models and ensure geometrical, non-geometrical information and technical compliance with the Project requirements.
  • Export, federate, perform clash detection and provide visual walkthroughs of models
  • Review, monitor and report on the development of clash interference and fully coordinated models  
  • Update 3D/2D models in accordance with instructions given by the discipline and production Leads for internal and external Design coordination, technical and value engineering activities.


Required Skills and Experience:


  • Degree in a relevant subject (Architecture, Engineering or Construction Management)
  • Experience within Design or Construction on infrastructure projects
  • Experience within Modelling and Drafting
  • Knowledge of multi-disciplinary Design workflows and understanding of 3D coordination process 
  • Experience with International and/or British BIM Standards
  • Ideally have experience in a range of authoring, scripting, design review, coordination, simulations and collaboration applications e.g. Microstation, AECOsim, Open Bridge, Road, Utilities, Power Rail, Navigator, ProjectWise, etc.
