SYSTRA are looking to expand our Signature Team in the UK, working on high profile infrastructure projects such as Crossrail and HS2, we are building on our 50 years of success in the UK by growing our team and looking for passionate people to deliver projects across our portfolio.

 

We are now seeking to strengthen and grow our Engineering team in our Birmingham office, initially working as part of our Main Works Civils High Speed 2 project team, by recruiting an experienced Civil & Structural Engineer.

 

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a range of experience within the Civil Engineering/Transportation/Infrastructure sectors.

Main Duties

 

Working in collaboration with our designers and contract partners, the Discipline Lead will be involved in a variety of tasks such as:

 

  • Develop the discipline competencies in line with the predicted workload of projects and the future value propositions being evolved
  • Monitor discipline training requirements and ensure they have been included in the Business Plan
  • Provide direction and leadership to deliver planned growth, development, recruitment, training and mentoring of staff
  • Liaise with the Bid Directors to ensure that resource requirements are understood and can be met by the team or external supply chain.
  • Accountable for the promotion of the discipline professional excellence with its clients
  • Continuously engage with the technical areas of our clients’ business to get feedback on our discipline technical delivery and capability.
  • Develop and implement processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery, and the quality, of engineering reports and designs within their discipline and on individual projects
  • Work with the Infrastructure Practice Director to develop and implement continuous improvement for technical discipline.
  • Promote SYSTRA’s professional / technical excellence with existing clients
  • Report on technical aspects of the business in line with SYSTRA’S business objectives
  • When required, to undertake the roles of Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE), Task Manager, Designer, Checker or Approver for all various types of civil design.
  • Undertake Technical Reviews and Peer Reviews of projects
  • Delivery of work to programme, budget and specification.
  • Establishment and maintenance of internal design standards and/or processes to achieve a continuous improvement in quality and efficiency. 
  • Implement effective, value for money and innovative design solutions to meet technical and project requirements
  • Ensure project requirements are effectively communicated to the team
  • Prepare and check engineering designs, calculations, and oversee production
  • Ensure compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, particularly the CDM Regulations
  • Acting as Discipline Lead within the Technical Directorate and maintain and support Production Centres in the wider SYSTRA Group,
  • Assist and support the Infrastructure Practice Director where required

 

Experience

 

  • Management of a team and excellent leadership skills
  • Technical specialist working on Rail bridge projects, preferably High Speed rail design
  • Experience across a wide variety of bridge and structures design including highway and rail bridges on behalf of local authorities, Highways England or Network Rail
  • Experience in detail design on design & build schemes
  • Extensive experience using Eurocodes
  • Relevant Degree (Civil or Structural Engineering)
  • Chartered Engineer status (IStructE)
