SYSTRA are looking to expand our Signature Team in the UK, working on high profile infrastructure projects such as Crossrail and HS2, we are building on our 50 years of success in the UK by growing our team and looking for passionate people to deliver projects across our portfolio.

 

We are now seeking to strengthen and grow our Engineering team in our Birmingham office, by recruiting an experienced Engineering Manager to support with the ongoing diversification of our portfolio as well as providing technical leadership for projects and bids.

 

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a range of experience within the Civil Engineering/Transportation/Infrastructure sectors.

 

Main Function of Job

 

The Engineering Manager will be accountable for the technical leadership of HS2 multi-disciplinary design delivery ensuring:

  • Technical co-ordination and integration of multi-discipline design inputs through Full project life-cycle through design and implementation to operation
  • Project requirements and are fully met
  • Technically sound design solutions are produced, including all associated reporting and cost estimating, to programme and within budget
  • Constructability, value for money, and innovation are considered at all stages
  • Compliance with all relevant technical standards
  • Advice and guidance is provided for staff, and professional development is actively pursued
  • Good relationships are maintained with all external parties to enhance the reputation of the company

 

 

Main Duties

Working in collaboration with our designers and contract partners, the Engineering Manager will be involved in a variety of tasks such as:

 

  • Overall engineering management and leadership of design deliverables
  • Responsible for technical quality and meeting the contract requirements to the SYSTRA 'signature' standard of quality
  • Health and safety leadership, demonstrating visible safety leadership and embedding Safe By Design principles
  • Point of contact for the Client for technical issues, technical meetings, external interfaces and gathering constructability inputs
  • Communicating incoming technical and scope documents, translating into a clear scope for the production teams
  • Coordinate design with the Client to drive the progressive assurance process in accordance with the Technical Assurance Plan
  • Constantly striving for design efficiencies to deliver cost savings for our clients
  • Responsible for ensuring the Design Management Plan is implemented with all associated procedures.
  • Extensive collaboration and cooperation with Discipline Technical Leads and other Engineering Managers to ensure the design documents are coordinated and consistent
  • Deep collaboration with the Project Manager on the design delivery strategy of the agreed design scope, including defining programme and resource needs, for reporting to the Client
  • Deliver their package design to budget, resource forecast and programme commitments
  • Support the Project Manager with identification of change, risk and opportunities
  • Manage Design Coordinators to lead design production from multiple disciplines by SYSTRA’s international engineering centres, ensuring that internal interfaces are resolved at production level
  • Monitor the competence of production team resources

 

An important part of the role will include working with the resources across the project – from local resources to others based at other design Technical Centres.

 

Experience

  • Experienced in the delivery of technical co-ordination and integration of multi-discipline design inputs, through full project life-cycle through design and implementation to operation
  • Experience in delivering detailed design
  • Experience working across various infrastructure engineering, especially in relation to High Speed Rail and Conventional Rail
  • Providing technically sound design solutions, including all associated reporting and cost estimating, to programme and within budget
  • Ensuring constructability, value for money, and innovation are considered at all stages
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant technical standards
  • Chartered Engineer, MICE or industry recognised equivalent
