We currently have an opportunity for a Graduate - Engineer to join our growing engineering team. Operating as an integral part of the electrification design consultancy team, with the aim of undertaking detailed allocation and construction design services on a variety of single and multidisciplinary projects to meet the ultimate requirements of the client and fulfil the strategic requirements of the Electrification team.
The Electrification Team is responsible for undertaking design and consultancies services within the context of the Railway industry to meet the requirements of a portfolio of clients, including contractors, third parties and Network Rail, as well as internal clients on multidisciplinary projects.
The team has several budgetary targets to fulfil including the securing of workload, utilisation, delivering projects to budget and delivering a successful result at a P+L level.
The successful applicant will be based from either our York or Birmingham office.
- The role shall encompass a variety of roles, assisting the electrification designers on projects, including planning, executing and leading site work, client liaison, design development, allocation and layout design, deliverables planning and delivery
- You will be responsible for working within single discipline teams, and as part of a multidiscipline team operating with both internal and external designers as well as multifaceted client organisations. The ability to operate and build relationships at all levels is key to succeeding and developing the Graduate Engineer role.
Main Duties

- Undertake electrification engineering design on a portfolio of projects in accordance with client requirements
- Exercise the responsibilities of CDM regulations as a designer
- Develop relationships with clients through successful project delivery to ensure reputation and future work winning is successful
- Achieve agreed targets regarding the effective delivery of projects to current engineering and safety standards within timescales and budget
- Contribute to team performance against specified criteria including efficiency and profitability.
- Monitor project design/construction against project quality plans and taken necessary corrective action
- Assist in the development of staff to ensure the safety of staff, and others, affected by the operations of Systra where appropriate
- Understand standards briefing and apply this knowledge in a project context
- Apply procedures and systems to ensure the safety of staff, and others, affected by the operations of Systra
- Any other reasonable duties as required.
Essential
-
- Flexibility in working hours will be required to meet the demands of the role
- Ability to travel to client sites and other SYSTRA offices will be required
- Ideal MEng mechanical engineering degree
- Knowledge of electrical and mechanical engineering design principles and standards
- Proficient at 2D and ideally 3D computer aided design;
- Design knowledge
- Ideally any railway electrification design office experience
- Ability to develop and maintain client relationships
- Awareness of contract conditions
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
- Demonstrate working/communicating across teams within the company to ensure delivery of projects
- Self-motivated team player.
- Able to work with the minimum of supervision
- Commercial awareness
- Computer literate – specifically CAD, Lotus notes, Microsoft Office packages
- IT Computer literate – specifically CAD, Lotus notes, Microsoft Office packages
