We currently have a new opportunity for a Graduate Geoenvironmental Engineer to join our growing team in Birmingham. This position will suit an Earth science/geology graduate with up to 18 months experience, with a contaminated land, hydrogeology, risk assessment, and remediation academic background and also an eagerness for developing in a geo-environmental field is essential.




Main Duties

  • Willingness to undertake ground investigations across the UK, including the requirement to work night shifts and weekends when the job requires.
  • Data collection, manipulation and interpretation of geological, geotechnical and chemical data as part of ground investigations
  • Preparation of technical reports including Phase I Geo-environmental Desk Studies, Phase II contamination risk assessments, Ground Investigation Reports, Material Management Plans.
  • Supporting on the design, procurement and supervision of ground investigations. Rail background would be advantageous.
  • Assist in the design, tendering and validation of earthworks and contaminated land remediation schemes.
  • Undertake hydrogeological studies and assist in developing groundwater control strategies and concept designs.
  • Liaise with internal and external clients to provide geo-environmental support and advice.
  • Assist in the preparation of fee proposals and manage project finances.


Experience/ Skills

  • Relevant experience in site investigation/geo-environmental consulting for infrastructure and industrial clients desirable but not necessary.
  • Knowledge of UK contaminated land legislation and contamination fate and transport important.
  • Excellent understanding of UK geology (including superficial geology)
  • Knowledge on the production of ground models
  • Knowledge of hydrogeological process and groundwater movements
  • Technical knowledge of geo-environmental modelling software including Holebase SI, ConSim, QGIS, and CLEA would be advantageous.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Highly motivated and adaptable with solution orientated approach and be keen to develop as part of a dynamic environmental group.
  • Full (clean) driving license required.
  • Aspiration for developing a career within geosciences
  • A general appreciation and if required A willingness to work within other departments within Systra, such as geotechnical, sustainability, and environmental consenting if required
  • Knowledge of geotechnical assessment, environmental consents/permitting and sustainability would be advantageous.
