SYSTRA are looking to expand our Signature Team in the UK, working on high profile infrastructure projects such as Crossrail and HS2, we are building on our 50 years of success in the UK by growing our team and looking for passionate people to deliver projects across our portfolio.


We are now seeking to strengthen and grow our Engineering and Environmental team in our Birmingham office, initially working as part of our Main Works Civils High Speed 2 project team, by recruiting a Senior Geo-Environmental Engineer.


The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a range of experience within the Civil Engineering/Transportation/Infrastructure and Environmental sectors.

Main Duties


  • Data collection, manipulation and interpretation of geological, and chemical data obtained as part of ground investigations
  • Preparation of technical reports including Phase I Geo-Environmental Desk Studies, geological and geotechnical desk studies, Phase II contamination risk assessments, Ground Investigation Reports, Material Management Plans. For HS2 the works will be focussed on generic and detailed quantitative risk assessments
  • Technical knowledge of geo-environmental modelling software including ConSim, CLEA.
  • Design, tendering and validation of earthworks and contaminated land remediation schemes
  • Liaise with internal and external clients to provide geo-environmental support and advice.
  • Assist in the preparation of fee proposals and manage project finances.
  • Support in the development of geo-environmental and geoscience engineers through training initiatives and CPD




  • Earth science/geology graduate with experience in undertaking contaminated land projects, with experience in risk assessments including DGRA and Remediation Strategies
  • BSc in geology/earth sciences, MSc would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of UK contaminated land legislation and contamination fate and transport important.
  • Good understanding of UK geology
  • Knowledge on the production of ground models
  • Knowledge of hydrogeological process and groundwater movements
  • Track record of managing the delivery of ground investigations.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent report writing skills
  • Understanding of ground engineering and geo-environmental risks
  • Chartered status as a chartered geologist, chartered scientist or similar preferable but would consider a candidate who is close to chartership application submission
  • Experience of managing more junior staff desirable.
  • Excellence in managing Health and Safety on site
