Technical Director/Principal - Train Controls & Signalling

Reporting to the Operations Manager (QLD), the Principal Consultant/Technical Director of Train Control & Signalling will focus on providing engineering advisory and technical services to support the creation & growth of advanced train control capabilities within SYSTRA. The opportunity will require you to apply your engineering expertise across a variety of rail infrastructure projects to ensure engineering excellence in an innovative and collaborative environment.
The role:
- Provide technical advice during different stages of the project lifecycle from feasibility to design and from construction to system integration & commissioning.
- Produce and review technical deliverables such as technical option reports, engineering principles, detail designs and test procedures etc.
- Apply system engineering techniques to support the production of technical deliverables (e.g requirement traceability, system modelling, configuration management etc.)
- Work with a wide range of System Assurance teams (including Safety & Human Factors etc) to support the demonstration that the systems deployed are fit for purpose.
- Support business readiness teams to analyse and understand the impact of technical decisions on the process and people aspects of the system.
- Work with clients to understand essential objectives and desired outcomes for each project.
Requirements and experience:
- Bachelor or higher-level qualifications in a relevant/related Engineering discipline or Systems Engineering is essential.
- Be working towards a chartered or equivalent professional status from a relevant Institution (e.g. Engineers Australia, RPEQ).
- 10-15 years’ experience in a Rail Signalling, or Control Systems / Traffic Management Systems, or modern Train Control technologies (e.g. ETCS, CBTC).
- Demonstrated experience in feasibility, system or preliminary design phases or system testing on a project of technical relevance.
- Experience in applying systems engineering techniques.
- Experience of having worked in a project subject to Cenelec-based safety demonstration.
- A thorough knowledge of industry standards for Train Control Systems (ETCS, CBTC, etc).
- The ability to work to timeframes with a high degree of organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills with a self-motivated and proactive approach.
