We currently have an opportunity for a Digital Engineer – BIM to join our growing engineering team. This position would suit a committed and ambitious digital engineer who can demonstrate strong interpersonal skills combined with commercial awareness and the ability to play their part in growing a dynamic, high performing team.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to design High Speed rail infrastructure, Metros, Light Rail and conventional rail in the UK and overseas and will have significant exposure to Bentley OpenRoads and/or Microstation software. The eventual post-holder will be joining a growing team of UK engineers delivering projects for a diverse portfolio of UK clients.
This role can be based from either our York, Manchester, Birmingham or Reading offices and there is the opportunity to follow a blended model of working from home and occasionally in the office.
The key responsibility for a Digital Engineer is to support the Alliance BIM Manager and Digital Engineering Manager in development, establishment and implementation. The Digital Engineer is required to possess strong computer CAD/BIM and technical skills to support and oversee the management of 3D/2D dimensional models, technical and quality checking and control, coordination and constructability analysis.
Main Duties
- Working in collaboration with our designers and contract partners, the Digital Engineer will be involved in a variety of tasks such as:
- Supporting the Design Integration Team, BIM Production Manager, GIS Specialists and Production Team(s) in Design implementation activities
- Providing progress and performance updates to the Digital Engineering Manager on a regular basis
- Integration of BIM and Information Management activities within Design Integration and Quality Assurance Teams
- Recording, storing and maintaining all formal correspondences related to BIM, Quality and Coordination activities
- Supporting the deployment (hardware and software), troubleshooting and provide hands-on BIM/CAD software training for Project team members.
- Review, monitor and report on the development of BIM/CAD models and 2D deliverables including relationships with BIM models and client’s asset requirements
- Ensuring model(s) are delivered in accordance with the agreed level of detail, information need, TIDP, MIDP and CDE protocol.
- Ensuring the quality compliance for all package submissions is delivered in accordance with project standards and requirements
- Performing quality assurance and control checks on models and ensuring geometrical, non-geometrical information and technical compliance with the Project requirements
- Performing take offs and validating data to schedules for design and commercial activities
- Exporting, federating and performing clash detection and providing visual walkthroughs of models for reporting and presentation purposes
- Reviewing, monitoring and reporting on the development of clash interference and fully coordinated models
- Supporting BIM and CAD models including 2D deliverables compliance with the project safety standards and CDM regulations and supporting the identification and mitigation of hazards in designs.
- Supporting and performing Design coordination, technical, value engineering and constructability activities
Experience and Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in Design or Construction
- Knowledge of multi-disciplinary Design workflows and understanding of BIM and CAD production and coordination process
- Experience with either International and/or British BIM and CAD Standards and Project implementation
- HNC+ in relevant disciplines
Skills
- An excellent communicator with an ability to form effective relationships with Project delivery team, Clients and Contractors
- Excellent working knowledge of all PC based Windows environments and Microsoft Office suite
- Proficient in a range of authoring, scripting, design review, coordination, simulations and collaboration applications e.g. Microstation, AECOsim, Open Roads, Power Rail, Navigator, ProjectWise, etc.
Special Circumstances
- Flexibility in working hours will be required to meet the demands of the role
- Ability to travel to Client sites and other SYSTRA offices will be required
- Able to undertake overseas assignments where required
- Perform other duties assigned by their line manager from time to time.
