We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Engineering Lead to join our growing team in Dublin. This position within our team will suit a committed and ambitious individual who can demonstrate strong leadership and interpersonal skills combined with commercial awareness and the ability to play their part in growing a dynamic high-performance team.


With a focus on projects across both the private and public sectors, working on both small and large-scale infrastructure schemes, this role will focus on, and be responsible for developing Civil and Rail Engineering business in Ireland.

Main Duties


  • Supported by the wider SYSTRA team, develop an engineering team capable of delivering Civil and Rail Engineering projects in Ireland
  • Develop strong client relationships in public and private sector
  • Identify Rail opportunities for the wider SYSTRA group
  • Develop and implement a business plan for Ireland with a strong focus on meeting growth targets 
  • Managing financial performance of Engineering Sector in Ireland
  • Implement systems and procedures to maintain a cost effective, high quality, safe and environmentally responsible approach to design, construction, commissioning
  • Apply engineering controls and procedures to all projects
  • Maintain a robust technical coordination process and chair design integration reviews
  • Implement effective, value for money and innovative design solutions to meet technical and project requirements
  • Liaise with clients and ensure their requirements are effectively communicated to the team
  • Review technical documents and reports and assist in the preparation of expressions of interest and tenders
  • Ensure compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation
  • Supervise team members across various office locations
  • Checks to ensure compliance with the Integrated Management System


The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following attributes:


  • Hold a degree in civil or mechanical engineering, a Master’s Degree is preferred but not essential.
  • The successful candidate will be a Chartered Engineer (CEng MIEI or equivalent recognised professional qualification)
  • Engineering management of major transport infrastructure projects with capital value exceeding €20 million
  • Technical co-ordination and integration of multi-discipline design inputs through full project life-cycle across multiple offices/ locations
  • Developing and maintaining strong client relationships
  • Achieving targets for work winning and delivery
  • Appreciation of all associated disciplines. Have ability to explain relationships between disciplines and how they interface.
  • Development and approvals of innovative engineering solution
  • Wider experience of conventional rail is advantageous but not essential.
  • Delivering technically sound design solutions, including all associated reporting and cost estimating, to programme and within budget
  • Mentoring staff and developing engineering capabilities across a business
