SYSTRA are looking to expand our Signature Team in the UK, working on high profile infrastructure projects such as Crossrail, HS2 and Transpennine Route Upgrade, we are building on our 50 years of success in the UK by growing our team and looking for passionate people to deliver projects across our portfolio.

 

We are now seeking to strengthen and grow our Engineering team in London, by recruiting an experienced HSEQ Lead.

 

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a range of experience within the Civil Engineering/Transportation/Infrastructure sectors.

 

This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Director to further their career in a highly motivated and inspirational environment on major infrastructure projects.

 

The role

 

To provide leadership and motivation via effective communication to all levels of the project to bring the project values of Respect, Leadership, Integrity, and Safety to life.

 

Main Duties

 

The HSEQ lead is accountable for the following:

  • Empowering people to deliver excellence across all HSEQ functions but also the wider project.
  • Liaise with and report to the client on all HSEQ matters.
  • Development, update, and implementation of the project IMS.
  • Accountable for the HSEQ processes.
  • Ensure surveillance and monitoring is established to provide assurance to the SLT and the client that all project processes are correctly implemented.
  • Accountable for HSEQ, including recruitment, day to day management, yearly assessment of performance, and the teams personal Health and Safety.
  • Present the monthly HSEQ performances to the client in the monthly meeting, and weekly to the SLT.
  • Encourage a culture of innovation across all HSEQ functions.

 

Specific responsibilities per discipline are as follow:

 

Environment:

  • Ensure that client or SLT raised issues are dealt with in a timely fashion.
  • Participate in the weekly client/project progress meetings.
  • Support the Environmental Manager(s) in delivery of project environmental matters.

Health and Safety and Wellbeing:

  • Is the main point of contact for the HS&W matters for the client.
  • Chair the Project Safety Forum (monthly meeting of all the HS Directors) and participate (as the main speaker for the project) with the Project Director in the monthly meeting.
  • Manage the HS&W team through the Health and Safety Manager
  • Work proactively with the procurement team and supply chain to maintain required standards and promote continual improvement in performance.
  • Ensure all accidents and incidents are thoroughly investigated.
  • Provide support and advice on Health and Safety by Design.
  • Promote specific HS&W initiatives and support the client’s Safe at Heart programme. 

Quality, Hand-Over and Commissioning:

  • Support the Quality Manger in assuring application of “right first time” methodology for all phases of the project
  • Monitor audit schedules and performance against ISO 9001 standard requirements.
  • Promote the use of Digital tools and technology.

Information Management (mostly Data Management and Document Control)

  • Support the IM manager in management of IM requirements including assets.
  • Promote the use of Digital tools and technology.

 

Required Experience

 

  • Good knowledge of the engineering, construction, and/or rail industry
  • CMIOSH
  • Management experience at director’s level and strategic thinker
  • Ability to relate at both board level and operative levels.

 

The following experiences are desirable:

 

  • IEMA certification (Environment)
  • Quality Auditor qualification
  • Experience in Information Management and Commissioning process
