SYSTRA are looking to expand our Signature Team in the UK, working on high profile infrastructure projects such as Transpennine Upgrade and HS2, we are building on our 50 years of success in the UK by growing our team and looking for passionate people to deliver projects across our portfolio.


We are now seeking to strengthen and grow our Engineering team in London, initially working as part of our HS2 project team, by recruiting an experienced Innovation and Value Manager.


Role Purpose


The Innovation & Value Manager will be responsible for managing Innovation and Value Engineering, covering the following:

  • Design and drive innovation within OOC, creating an innovation culture and creating and updating the innovation strategy and innovation management system;
  • Identify opportunities/ideas and complete assessments;
  • Managing and overviewing innovation testing;
  • Supporting tender evaluations;
  • Commercialising innovation projects;
  • Creating and updating the value management processes and procedures; and
  • Managing the value engineering exercise.


The Old Oak Common project is currently managing a portfolio of 5 innovation projects and is looking to double this over the coming year. Old Oak Common is one of the most exciting areas to develop innovation projects because of the variety of the works, from civil engineering to fit-out and commissioning and because of the support innovation receives from the project Client, HS2.


Main Duties


The main responsibilities of the Innovation and Value Manager will include the following:

  • Acting as the single point of contact for innovation within the OOC project, forming and maintaining a close relationship with HS2. Collaborating with BBVS and HS2 innovation and commercial team to identify innovation initiatives, enabling their value and assessing their financial implications;
  • Maintaining the innovation bank, ensuring it is up to date and available to all project participants as the mechanism to collect innovation initiatives;
  • Leading the piloting assessment and rollout of innovation within the OOC. Facilitating regular working groups within the project to identify innovation, best practice, and process improvement opportunities;
  • Preparing regular reports for the leadership team;
  • Developing implement and maintain Works Information 845 and Subcontractor Works Information 845;
  • Reaching back into JV parent organisations and subcontractor organisations to identify innovation initiatives being undertaken on other projects that may have application in OOC and across the HS2 programme;
  • Coordinating and aiding in preparing the annual R&D Tax Claim for parent companies;
  • Participating in industry bodies promoting and trialling construction industry innovation and review applications for OOC, including involvement with the HS2 accelerator initiative, encouraging SMEs to engage with tier one contractors;
  • Continuously liaising with other HS2 contracts to capture innovation that may be applied to OOC;
  • Undertaking research into international practice and other industries that may be applicable to OOC;
  • Working with the BIM, Field Technology, and IT specialists to implement innovation at OOC;
  • Managing the InnoStation Platforma and the InnoInfluencers Group (Innovation Champions Group);
  • Acting as the Value Manager in line with Works Information 300 Design Management; and
  • Managing the Value Management Register;





  • Degree qualified within a relevant Engineering discipline
  • Relevant knowledge and experience from working with business, clients or partners to support growth and development by taking an innovative approach;
  • Experience of leading Innovation projects in an Infrastructure/Construction/Engineering environment
  • Broad Engineering experience gained on infrastructure projects
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Certification in innovation management or responsible for innovation in a previous role would be desirable and
  • Certification in value engineering or responsible for value engineering in a previous role
  • Chartered or working towards Chartership in a relevant field
