SYSTRA are looking to expand our Signature Team in the UK, working on high profile infrastructure projects such as Crossrail and HS2, we are building on our 50 years of success in the UK by growing our team and looking for passionate people to deliver projects across our portfolio. 

  

We are now seeking to strengthen and grow our Engineering team in our London office, by recruiting an experienced Practice Director - Systems to support with the ongoing diversification of our portfolio as well as providing technical leadership for projects and bids, reporting directly into the Managing Director – Engineering and sitting on the Senior Leadership Team for SYSTRA Limited. 

  

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a range of Rail Systems experience within the Infrastructure and Engineering sectors both in the UK and overseas.

Main Duties of the role: 

  

  • Identifying and growing a sustainable pipeline of opportunities across the UK & Ireland market 

  • Identifying multi-discipline opportunities to be followed in collaboration with other infrastructure/systems disciplines and in collaboration with the consultancy business 

  • Client engagement to provide a deeper understanding of future needs and to position SYSTRA in the UK market 

  • Acting as internal and external ‘figurehead’ and technical expert for the systems practice 

  • Responsible for the resourcing of all systems production staff, by discipline, for bids and project delivery, working in close collaboration with the Sales team and Operations team, and delivered through a number of Discipline Leads 

  • Working closely with the Practice Director (Infrastructure), Engineering Director and Head of Engineering Management to provide a joined up technical solution for bids and projects. 

  • Management of the capability and experience of the Systems discipline teams 

  • Management of the growth of the systems disciplines in line with the business plan, pipeline and ongoing project portfolio, through close collaboration with the HR/recruitment team, with specific emphasis on the global growth of an efficient systems capability to face major systems bids such as HS2 

  • Provide direction and leadership to deliver planned growth, development, recruitment, training and mentoring of a signature team, setting clear career paths and opportunities for personal growth 

  • Develop and implement processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery, and the quality, of systems engineering production and on individual projects  

  • Inspire technical excellence within the disciplines 

  • Maintain strong working relationships, communication, knowledge sharing, innovation sharing with the Infrastructure Practice as well as SYSTRA global operations.   

  • Working in collaboration with Project Directors and PMO teams to identify resources required to deliver bids and projects 

  • Management of utilisation within the Practice, utilising forecasts of work winning and project requirements to maintain budget utilisation and identifying/implementing opportunities to improve 

  • Delivery of project work to agreed programme, budget and safety and quality specifications 

  • Develop strong relationships with SYSTRA global systems teams and the transversal systems network to ensure that the capability of group can be deployed to serve major UK systems opportunities, and that the UK systems capability can in turn, service the requirements of SYSTRA group.  

 

 Required Skills and Experience: 

  

  • Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline  

  • Chartered Engineer (MICE/MIET/IMechE) or industry equivalent 

  • Experience in delivering major infrastructure or transportation projects  

  • Experience in managing large multidisciplinary team (MEP, E&P, Signalling, Track, OLE, Telecoms) 

  • Experience managing stakeholders including client and external stakeholders 

  • Experience managing design for design and build projects 

  • Demonstrable Health and Safety Leadership skills 

  • Experience in working with offshore production centres and transversal group functions
