SYSTRA are looking to expand our Signature Team in the UK, working on high profile infrastructure projects such as Crossrail and HS2, we are building on our 50 years of success in the UK by growing our team and looking for passionate people to deliver projects across our portfolio.

 

We are now seeking to strengthen and grow our Engineering and Project Controls team in London, by recruiting an experienced Cost Engineer.

 

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a range of experience within the Civil Engineering/Transportation/Infrastructure sectors.

The role

 

Support the Project Controls team including monthly cost control and forecast, EVA, reporting to the JV and Client. Analysis based in a WBS/CBS coding structure, work package and control account meeting the deadlines established in the reporting calendar. To establish and maintain positive and effective relationships with senior management and delivery teams.

 

Main Duties

 

  • To implement the project requirements for Cost Control, especially in the work package assigned.
  • Assist on the production and delivery of the Performance Measurement Baseline and Performance Measurement Updates (PMU and Baseline forecast)
  • Capture and integrate current and forecast programme, cost, and risk at CBS & tasks level or as required, using the tools approved by the project effectively using IT and systems
  • Responsible for ensuring all Cost related inputs from supply chain are reliable and provided in a timely manner to support the Performance Measurement Update (PMU) process. Challenge cost forecast from Supply chain
  • Responsible for producing reliable progress and Earned value reports for the PK under and the control account his/her responsibility.
  • Establish interfaces and liaise with client stakeholders. Attend/Chair progress meetings with HS2, planning, commercial, construction team in the production of quantity tracking reports
  • Attend/Chair progress meetings with supply chain, planning, commercial & construction team reviewing the Forecast EAC and the SPMU from supply chain.
  • Attending periodic site visits to assess progress of work done
  • Liaise with Commercial team reviewing the actual cost monthly pre-SPMU meetings, providing guidance on the WBS coding and accruals on the packages assigned and the SPMU completeness ensuring the use of WBS/CBS across the project where progress and cost is allocated within the correct cost centres
  • Providing general support to the Commercial team on tasks such as monthly cost reports & accruals based on EVA and remaining forecast cost.
  • Prepare weekly quantity progress reports comparing planned work with actual work produced on site for key ID_elements.
  • Support the Cost Control Mngr. in producing the monthly PMU & Dashboard submission, preparing accurate, timely and complete reports to the client
  • Generate analysis reports to compare previous months forecast Vs Actuals, & variances and movements for different financial years.
  • Day to day use of database to review cost reporting information ensuring budget are accurate and up to date with all approved variations.
  • Familiarization with and use of CEMAR, Primavera P6 & Xer tools, and procedure for budgeting and cost control and reporting.

 

Experience

 

  • Degree qualified within a relevant discipline (Civil Engineering or a similar Construction related degree)
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, organisation and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in cost control services within large complex environments within the construction and engineering industry
  • Good understanding of Project controls and alignment of programme, cost, budget, risk and change
  • Understanding of various forms of tender documents, contract documents and specifications
  • Good understanding of various methods of cost control, forecasting and performance reporting, and EVA (SPI/CPI indexes)
  • Understanding of the construction market, methods of construction, plant, equipment, and labour requirements
  • Understanding of the project life cycle.
  • Superb communication and presentation skills. Ability to make effective and persuasive presentation to Employee, Clients, Management and or public groups.
  • Aptitude to succeed in a stressful and deadline-oriented environment.
  • Solid understanding of Information Systems and advance MS Excel.

 

The following experiences are desirable:

 

  • Knowledge of Primavera P6
  • Basic understanding of R12 accounting software
