We are now seeking to strengthen and grow our Engineering team in London, by recruiting an experienced System Safety Manager on a permanent basis.


The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a range of experience within the Civil Engineering/Rail Transportation/Infrastructure sectors.

The role


To be responsible for managing the implementation of CSM-RA across the project lifecycle. Developing and maintaining the System Safety Management Plan. Ensure that the Systems Safety Management Plan is implemented with the Project and Subcontractors. Managing the implementation of the Technical Specifications for Interoperability.


Main Duties



  • Management of, production, ongoing maintenance of the SSMP, SD, SSSR (SJR) and hazard record to acceptance by the client and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Managing and coordinating the Designers system safety team.
  • Managing and coordinating System Safety in respect of contributions made by subcontractors.
  • Manage the system safety interface between ourselves and the client, plan, run and follow-up actions for coordination meetings, ad-hoc representation for other meetings in representation of SS and TSI.
  • Lead review of the Designers and subcontractor SS deliverables, including Work Package specific submissions.
  • HS2 and NR the independent assessment body (AsBo) / Network Rail Assurance Panel), Safety Review Panel – Supporting HS2 in coordination and engagement.
  • Managing scheduling of SS deliverables activities.
  • Manage construction sequence and methodology in respect of system safety.
  • Review ITPs for safety related content.
  • Managing Hazards to “completion” and managing residual risk.
  • Overseeing Hazard Transfer process.



  • Manage the implementation of TSIs on the project.
  • Oversee collation of compliance evidence against TSIs.
  • Manage the coordination with the client, also regarding consultation with the NoBo




  • Chartered Engineer and Membership of an appropriate professional institution, or equivalent experience.
  • Good understanding of System Safety in relation to Rail Infrastructure projects
  • Experience in the application of the Common Safety Method (CSM) for risk evaluation and assessment within the UK rail industry
  • Strong background working on UK Rail projects
