SYSTRA Canada's Rolling Stock Division offers engineering services for the refurbishment of passenger cars, the design and integration of new equipment on all types of cars (generator cars, diner cars, etc.), as well as technical specifications and equipment acquisition services.


The Electrical Technician will participate in projects involving the electrical team.  He will work on the design, production and testing of electrical systems, on site or in the workshop.  Knowledge of the following electrical systems is certainly an important asset: HVAC, distribution line, circuit protection, door system, relay control, and PLC programming, diesel generators, audio system, communications, Wi-Fi. In the performance of his tasks, the technician must be able to make corrections to electrical schematics and technical drawings, write test procedures, and develop diagnostics.  He will travel mainly in Canada and the United States to follow up on workshops and work sites.


General Responsibilities (Goal and objectives):

Under the responsibility of the Electrical Team Lead, the Electrical Technician will act within the electrical team to perform the following tasks:

  • Design control circuits, distribution panels;
  • Design circuit protection, wiring, and conduits;
  • Diagnose and test electrical systems;
  • Program PLCs;
  • Draw up a list of wiring and equipment (BOM);
  • Writes work instructions and test procedures;
  • Produce test reports;
  • Produce or supervise the production of technical drawings and electrical schematics;
  • Follow up on-site or in the workshop for the manufacturing and installation of electrical components or systems.


Education and Experience (minimum and desired):

  • College Diploma (DEC) in electrical, electromechanics, automation, or equivalent training in the electrical field.



  • Knowledge of electrical schematic software: SEE Electrical Expert, AutoCAD / DraftSight;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Experience in the field of electrical distribution or automation is an asset;
  • Experience in the rail or transport sector is an asset;
  • Knowledge of the electrical code and transportation standards is an asset.

Language skills:

  • Ability to communicate and write in French and English.
