Role and responsibilities


SYSTRA Canada's Transit Division is involved in Canadian and international projects in the fields of rail transport (conventional and high-speed trains) and urban transport (metros, streetcars, and electric buses).


As a member of the "Mobility, Innovation, Digital and New Services" team, the Digital Development Manager - Lead Dev develops the means and processes related to the development of digital applications and programs related to human mobility. Furthermore, as a technical authority in IT development, he/she supervises a team of developers and data science analysts, guides technical choices, and contributes to the development of digital applications entrusted to his/her team.


The Digital Development Manager - Lead Dev will have the following responsibilities:


1. Designing digital applications and tools for mobility:

  • Participate in the definition of the requirements and functionalities sought for the development of programs and applications;
  • Guide the technological choices to ensure the best durability of the developed applications;
  • Develop, code, build, install, configure and maintain solutions and cloud infrastructure;
  • Perform routine application maintenance to ensure the production environment is functioning correctly;
  • Prepare and update clear documentation on deployments, investigations, troubleshooting, maintenance, and technical problem resolutions;
  • Control the respect of norms and standards associated with the technologies used, in particular, the compatibility of the site with the various browsers;
  • Supervise the structuring of acquired operational transportation data and oversee the design of databases to feed complex models using artificial intelligence;
  • Propose development ideas to strengthen SYSTRA's position in modelling;
  • Act as a technical referent for the development of digital applications;
  • Keeping a technological watch on information technologies and computer development to remain up to date with the latest developments;


2. Management:

  • Use configuration management tools to automatically deploy updates and patches to the production environment as well as test processes and deployments to identify ways to streamline and minimize errors;
  • Collaborate (in modern Agile method) with developers, data engineers, UI/UX designers, technical managers, etc. to plan and develop creative solutions;
  • Develop the programming skills of his team;
  • Manage the team's workload schedule;
  • Manage the development of IT platform and architecture in conjunction with the IT department of the entity and the Group;
  • Report on the progress of the developments entrusted to him/her;
  • Participate in project monitoring and progress meetings with clients and partners;


3. Collaborate with the Group's support services:

  • Interface daily with SYSTRA Canada's IT department and the Group's information systems department;
  • Participate in audits conducted by the information systems department;
  • Liaise with qualified resources of the Group on the development of digital tools;





Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or related technical discipline applicable to the software development industry


Years of experience: More than 10 years in software development and computer applications


Technical competencies:

  • Experience as a Full Stack DevOps Engineer or in a similar technical role ;
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written;
  • Proficiency in French and English;
  • Ability to write intermediate code with scripts or language (Python, Java, TypeScript, Node.js, HTML, PowerShell, Bash, Git) ;
  • Ability to use front end development frameworks (Angular, Vue, React)
  • Knowledge of IP networks, VPN, DNS and firewalls ;
  • Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle and various automation tools for digital pipeline development (CI/CD pipelines) ;
  • Hands-on experience with visualization, design, authoring, testing, and management of code release, merge, and promotion, as well as CI/CD workflows and tools ;
  • Knowledge of principles and techniques of identification, data administration, and cloud system architecture (GCP, Azure, or AWS) ;
  • Knowledge of container and server infrastructure (Kubernetes, Docker, Nginx or similar) ;
