Role and responsibilities

 

SYSTRA Canada's Transit Division is involved in Canadian and international projects in the fields of rail transport (conventional and high-speed trains) and urban transport (metros, streetcars, and electric buses).

 

As a member of the "Mobility, Innovation, Digital and New Services" team, the Digital Application Development Studio Manager develops the means and processes related to the development of digital applications and programs related to human mobility. As a technical authority in IT development, he/she supervises a team of developers and data science analysts, guides technical choices, and contributes to the development of digital applications entrusted to his/her team.

 

A full stack developer by training, the Development Studio Manager will have the following responsibilities:

 

  1. Designing digital applications and tools for mobility:
  • Participate in the definition of the requirements and functionalities sought for the development of programs and applications;
  • Define the applicable technologies (stack) for the development of applications;
  • Guide the technological choices to ensure the best long-term durability of the developed applications;
  • Manage a development team and participate where appropriate in the development of programs and code for simulation purposes and data processing and web services (back-end and front-end);
  • Integration of designs or mock-ups (user interfaces) using appropriate development languages: HTML, CSS, PHP, etc.
  • Control of the respect of the norms and standards associated with the technologies used, in particular the compatibility of the site with the various browsers;
  • Supervise the structuring of acquired operational transportation data and oversee the design of databases to feed complex models using artificial intelligence;
  • Propose development ideas to strengthen SYSTRA's position in modeling;
  • Act as a technical referent for the development of digital applications;
  • Keeping a technological watch on information technologies and computer development to remain up-to-date with the latest developments;

 

  1. Management:
  • Propose and implement appropriate IT development management tools (GitLab, GitHub, Spira...)
  • Develop the programming skills of his team;
  • Manage the team's workload and define the priorities of the project;
  • Manage the development platform and IT architecture in conjunction with the IT department of the entity and the group;
  • Ensure good development practices related to cybersecurity;
  • Report on the progress of the developments entrusted to him/her;
  • Participate in project monitoring and progress meetings with clients and partners;

 

  1. Collaborate with the group's support services:
  • Interface on a daily basis with SYSTRA Canada's IT department and the Group's information systems department;
  • Participate in audits conducted by the information systems department;
  • Liaise with qualified resources of the group on the development of digital tools;

 

 

Qualifications

 

Education: Degree in computer engineering or a master's degree applicable to the software development industry

 

Years of experience: More than 10 years in software development and computer applications

 

Technical competencies:

  • Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) or able to register;
  • Experience in managing associated risks and desire to make a long-term investment in an internationally renowned engineering group.
  • Excellent knowledge of SQL, Python and VBA programming languages;
  • Recognized expertise in the mastery of different programming languages and their challenges.
  • Knowledge of the Linux environment;
  • Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes;

  • Proficient in French and English;
