We are currently seeking Consultants, Senior Consultants and Principal Consultants in the Rail Advisory business unit. This role could be based in any of our London, Woking, Leeds, Manchester or Dublin offices and will be offered on a hybrid basis, with a split of office-based and home working. The successful candidate will be a rail economist, modeller or similar with a proven track record in undertaking work such as: cost benefit appraisal (CBA); demand, cost and performance forecasting; rail passenger demand research; and producing business cases for rail and transport improvement projects.

 

They will support the development and growth in our key markets in the UK and Ireland by leading and undertaking work for clients such as the UK Department for Transport, Irish Rail Train Operating Companies/Owning Groups and Local Authorities. This will involve working closely with our team in the UK and Ireland to deliver high-quality work for clients, leading team on specific tasks and projects where appropriate. They will also contribute to successful tenders for future work. Specific project and tender involvement will depend on the skills and experience of the candidate. The successful candidate will also collaborate on multi-disciplinary projects and tenders, working with colleagues across our business units.

For more experienced candidates the role will involve significant levels of client interaction, working with client representatives to agree the scope of work and timelines for delivery, and liaising regularly work process.

 

A selection of the following skills and experience will be required:

 

  • A relevant degree (economics, maths, transport economics, etc).
  • Expertise in railway and transport economics.
  • Expertise in using and applying the UK Department for Transport’s Transport Analysis Guidance (TAG, formerly WebTAG) and/or using and applying the Irish Department of Transport’s Transport Appraisal Framework (TAF).
  • Experience in the use of computer analysis programmes, common to the rail sector. For example, MOIRA, MOIRA2.2, ATTune, Planet, R, Stata.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality project work.
  • Ability to contribute to successful tenders for work.
  • Highly numerate and competent in the use of Microsoft Excel
  • Team leadership and line management experience.
