We have an immediate opportunity for a qualified and highly experienced Finance professional to join our busy UK finance team as the Business Partner for the Consultancy Division. The opportunity could be Manchester or York based, but with extensive flexibility to work from home. The role takes financial ownership of the Consultancy division. The role will operate in a true business partner capacity with the Managing Director for Consultancy, whilst ensuring consistency across 3 business areas within the SYSTRA UK business and in conjunction with global business directives.  The Business Partner (Consultancy) will liaise very closely with the Managing Director of the Consultancy division.


The Consultancy business is grouped by Sector (Passenger Transport, Transport Planning, Modelling, Development & Infrastructure) each of which is led by a Sector Director. The Leadership team comprises the Sector Directors plus Directors of Operations, Sales and HR. The Business Partner will work with the MD to collect, interpret and present financial and other data up, across and down into the organisation. This will ensure accurate, timely Reporting, facilitate in depth Analysis and inform business decisions to ensure that targets are met.


The Business Partner (Consultancy) will have full ownership of the financial management of the Consultancy division including:


Main Duties:


  • Review of contract performance and “market” performance
  • Monthly review of the Consultancy BU financial performance, liaising with the Financial Controller (Consultancy)
  • Regular (monthly & weekly) review of key performance indicators (such as utilisation) with the MD Consultancy and the Business, Sales and Operations Directors
  • Budgeting & forecasting of the Consultancy Business Unit, with scenario testing across the year
  • Production of high quality financial analysis for Consultancy Management team, and for reviews and input in to monthly SYSTRA UK reporting
  • Engagement in the implementation of Project Unity ERP system across the Consultancy Business, and ownership of reporting requirements
  • Liaison with SYSTRA Ireland branch of the UK business
  • Liaison with the SYSTRA UK Head of Finance to ensure strong financial reporting and control over the Systra Consultancy business, aligning with Systra UK policies, processes and targets
  • Working with Systra UK to improve financial information in to the Systra UK business
  • Completion and ownership of the financial bid models and support documentation for SYSTRA Consultancy bids ensuring compliance with SYSTRA internal control procedures
  • Provide business ownership of the SYSTRA Consultancy key reporting submissions (in conjunction with the SYSTRA Consultancy Financial Controller)
  • Liaison with joint ventures and large framework contracts where appropriate
  • Support and training to the SYSTRA Finance team in the Consultancy business unit, including focus on working capital management and contract administration process.


Experience Required:


  • Extensive financial and commercial management experience ideally within a design consultancy
  • Experience of management of significant volumes of smaller design contracts
  • High process orientated individual, comfortable with and implementing new business systems
  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified with significant experience working at a senior business partner level
  • Significant forecasting, reporting, budgeting and project accounting experience
  • A tenacious, resilient, self-starting problem solver who is keen to drive change and process improvement
  • People and relationship management skills with the understanding of a client relationship driven organisation
