SYSTRA are immediately recruiting for a Senior CAD Technician to join either the Manchester, York or Birmingham offices to lead Technicians and Apprentices in the efficient and effective delivery of high profile projects, working with Engineers to ensure the needs of the Client and the business are met. The Senior CAD Technician will apply company procedures and systems to promote high levels of health, safety and wellbeing of staff and other stakeholders whilst personally contributing to and leading these initiatives.

 

Proactively contribute to the effective and consistent implementation of SYSTRA Company policies and procedures. Support the business in work winning and engineering delivery, maximising all opportunities with Clients.

 

Assist in safeguarding profitability through engagement with other SYSTRA staff and promote efficient engineering delivery based on a right first time principle.

 

Maintain and expand the skill set of the team in support of company ventures as they develop.

 

OPERATIONAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

  • Lead Computer Aided Design (CAD) teams as directed, ensuring Client commitments are met.
  • Undertake the duties of designer as highlighted in CDM legislation.
  • Maintain a knowledge of products and designs relevant to your work and apply it in a range of situations.
  • Deliver a portfolio of projects to the required quality, time and budget, showing self checking, with minimum input by others.
  • Have a positive attitude towards checking and quality. Monitor project and team performance against CAD standards and quality requirements, taking necessary corrective action.
  • Plan and prioritise tasks effectively for yourself and other team members with minimal input by others, reporting back on progress and delivering on commitments you have made.

 

FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILTIES

 

  • Understand the relationship between hours worked and project cost, budgets and commercial pressures.
  • Monitor your project’s progress against costs and programme.
  • Identify cost savings.
  • Contribute to the team’s achievement of Annual Plan by meeting or exceeding project targets.

 

PEOPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

  • Proactive in leading, coaching and mentoring junior CAD technicians and apprentices.
  • Develop staff to ensure the skills are available within the team to meet business objectives.
  • Support and contribute to the training of staff.
  • Contribute information on staff performance to the appraisal process and via other methods.
  • Manage relationships with various internal and external stakeholders.
  • Apply procedures and systems to ensure the safety and wellbeing of your team and other stakeholders.

 

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED

 

  •   A high level of ability in Microstation CAD systems and able to give comprehensive guidance to others.
  •   Experience within the rail sector covering a broad range of design challenges at different stages of design development.
  •   A high level of ability in applying procedures and standards that apply to CAD and able to give comprehensive guidance to others.
  •   Knowledge of other CAD platforms and tools related to CAD.
  •   Experience of using data management systems.
  •   Experience of safety standards and CDM regulations and a track record of applying them, showing and ability to identify and mitigate hazards in designs.
  •   Experience of civil engineering design principles and standards.
  •   Experience of construction principles and standards.
  •   Experience of working with contractors in a design and build environment.
  •   Experience in the use of supplementary CAD tools such as CADS RC or Autotrack.
  •   Good command of written and spoken English.
