Business Development Manager, Toronto

Reports to:      Vice President, Transit

 

Overall Responsibilities (purpose and objectives)

The incumbent will work to strengthen the company's positioning and participate in the growth of the Transit division in North America. The Business Development Manager will also participate in defining strategic objectives, establishing key relationships with clients, and identifying business opportunities. The Business Development Manager will be responsible for negotiating and concluding contracts with the private or public sector in a competitive environment.

 

Specific Responsibilities/Tasks:

 

  • Look for and identify business opportunities;
  • Pursue and maintain relationships with existing and potential clients;
  • Negotiate and conclude contracts;
  • Develop business plans including marketing strategies;
  • Have an in-depth knowledge of current market conditions and prepare related reports;
  • Coordinate the bidding team as required;
  • Participate in local and international fairs and any other development activities.

 

Internal and External Relations


Internal: Interact with the business development team, members of management, as well as with the various divisions of the company.
External: Develop and/or maintain business relationships with clients, suppliers and consultants to increase business opportunities and ensure the proper progress of ongoing projects.
 

Education (minimum and desired)

 

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from a Canadian university or equivalent;
  • Additional Diploma in Management, Commerce and/or Administration is an asset.

 

Experience (minimum and desired)

 

  • Ten years of experience as an engineer, preferably within an engineering consulting firm;
  • Five years of experience in a management or supervision position;
  • Knowledge of the North American market is required;
  • Proven business development experience;
  • Relevant experience in the field of railway and/or transport engineering;
  • Ability to present the company's services to a diverse audience;
  • Excellent writing and bid coordination skills.

 

Personal and Other Qualifications

 

  • Excellent technical knowledge of the different aspects of civil and mechanical engineering;
  • Persuasive nature;
  • Ability to credibly present their knowledge and recommendations;
  • Detail oriented;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Flexibility to travel abroad for extended periods of time.
     

Language Requirements
The candidate must be fully bilingual (English and French). The position is based in Toronto.
