Department / Team: Freight & Mining Division

 

Reports to: Design Engineering Team Leader

 

General Responsibilities (Purpose and Objectives):

Provide support to the design engineering group with AutoDESK/Bentley software/In-house developed software.

 

Specific Responsibilities/Tasks:

  • Support the Department of Civil Engineering in the creation of technical drawings.
  • Produce technical drawings from conceptual sketches.
  • Update existing drawings with a minimum of supervision.
  • Support project teams to develop specific civil work estimates.
  • Perform train simulations with the aid of in-house software.
  • Finalize all aspects of a railway alignment (horizontal geometry and vertical profiles).
  • Provide design solutions for railway yards and their operational feasibility
  • Design track structures
  • Analyze survey data and produce detailed 3D surface models

 

Internal and External Relationships:

Internal: Civil infrastructure division

 

Education:

College degree in Civil Engineering (DEC) or Building & Architecture, or Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering

 

Experience:

  • 5-10 years' experience with the latest version of AutoDESK design software (Autocad and CIVIL 3D), and BENTLEY (InROADS)
  • 5-10 years' experience in the production of detailed profiles plans.
  • 5-10 years' experience in producing earthwork quantities from a design corridor
  • 5-10 years' experience manipulating LiDAR data or equivalent survey information

     

Personal Qualifications and other:

  • Commitment to producing work of high quality.
  • Independent and able to manage priorities in a multitasking environment.
  • Very good knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • Ability to read and understand Survey topographic maps.
  • Ability to interact positively with others in a multicultural environment.
  • A strong knowledge of American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA), and its recommended practice.
  • General knowledge of Hydrology and its effects on design corridors.

    A strong knowledge of AutoDESK CIVIL 3D, experience in the rail engineering sector, particularly in railway alignment design will be considered valuable assets.

     

Language Requirements: Ability to communicate in French and English (speaking, writing)
