The mechanical engineer will be involved in the design of structures and various mechanical systems and components for railway vehicles (passenger cars), particularly lighting systems. The engineer will carry out analyses, write reports, solve technical problems and support designers of structural and cladding railway vehicle systems.


Specific responsibilities and tasks:
Under the supervision of the Team Lead, Mechanical Engineering, the Mechanical Engineer will perform the following functions:
- Conduct studies and prepare technical reports to resolve train operating and reliability problems or other rail vehicle improvements.
- Develop functional and design requirements specifications.
- Monitor and support system suppliers throughout the design process; from the identification of technical requirements, through design reviews with customers, then qualification testing to commissioning;
- Select materials and components to meet technical and commercial requirements.
- Perform the necessary analyses and calculations to verify and document compliance with customer requirements, safety and regulations.
- Define test requirements and procedures.
- Prepare or validate 3D models.
- Review and sign production drawings and material lists.
- Participate, as required, in first article inspections and tests.
- Participate in the development of technical specifications for locomotives and cars.
- Develop manufacturing and installation instructions.
- Take on-site measurements and provide technical support for the manufacture and installation of mechanical components or systems.
- Translate technical documents.


Qualifications and experience
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.

- Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec or eligible.
- 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in mechanical design (design of models and 3D drawings) and with systems for vehicles, trains and buses.

- Experience in supporting a production team.
- Bilingual (French and English) and good technical writing skills.
- Ease and efficiency for communication and teamwork.
- Familiarity with reading manufacturing drawings, including welding symbols, dimensional dimensions and tolerances.
- Experience in metalworking workshops or good knowledge of manufacturing techniques.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD and 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks, Inventor or Catia.
- Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Knowledge of FRA, APTA, AAR, SAE, ASME, CSA or Transport Canada rail vehicle standards will be considered.

- Availability to travel in Canada and in the United States occasionaly (one or two weeks at a time).
