Role and responsibilities

 

Reporting to the Financial Controller and based at the Montreal head office, the General Accountant assists in the preparation of the company's monthly and annual financial statements.  He/she must ensure that the policies and procedures in place with respect to accounting rules and internal control procedures are followed.

  • Responsible for the complete monthly and annual accounting closing process in the ERP system;
  • Establish monthly and annual closing schedules and follow up on actions by manager;
  • Maintain the complete monthly closing process in the ERP;
  • Produce financial statements, monthly, quarterly and annual reports as well as all financial information for management, shareholders, tax authorities and financial institutions;
  • Participate in the preparation of monthly and annual financial presentations;
  • Participate in the preparation of the company's annual budgets and their revisions;
  • Maintain in ERP the exchange rates, accounting accounts and other rules that need to be modified as needed;
  • Coordinate and record accounting transactions in the various journals: manual accounting entries for salaries, depreciation, hours on projects, supplier invoices, customer invoices, feedback from branches and others;
  • Prepare monthly accounting entries: depreciation of fixed assets, prepaid expenses, provisions for expenses and hours, others;
  • Follow-up and control of accounting reports from the branches;
  • Perform monthly financial analyses;
  • Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations;
  • Perform Canadian bank reconciliations and bank accounts held outside Canada;
  • Validation of financial fees charged by banking institutions
  • Creation of fixed asset codes, coding of fixed asset invoices and archiving of fixed asset invoices/contracts;
  • Validation of the coding of purchase orders and supplier invoices;
  • Responsible for producing the inter-company assets, liabilities, revenues and expenses report and following up with stakeholders in other entities;
  • File sales tax returns;
  • Expense statements - update form monthly;
  • Participate in the development of internal control policies and procedures;
  • Participate in the development of documentation of accounting procedures in ERP;
  • Participate and assist the Financial Controller during internal and external audits.

 

Accounting and financial management of the branch office located in Guinea

  • Supervises the accounting and financial operations performed by the branch accountant;
  • Responsible for the production of annual financial statements and local corporate tax returns;
  • Supervise and control the production of reports required by the local tax authorities on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis;
  • Ensure timely payment of local taxes, duties and fees required by the tax and administrative authorities;
  • Participate in and ensure the proper conduct of audits conducted by the tax authorities with the contribution of the local accountant;
  • Validation of local cash reports and calls for funds;
  • Validation of payroll deduction reports for local payroll
  • Validation of invoices to be paid to local suppliers and responsible for making payments;
  • Responsible for establishing hourly rates for local employees;
  • Maintenance of local accounting and financial procedures book.

 

Other

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, internal procedures and accounting standards;
  • Support to other accounting team members and internal stakeholders;
  • Accounts Payable Creation;
  • Ensure that all documentation relating to accounting transactions is archived and stored according to the rules in force;
  • Filing and archiving;
  • Other related duties.

 

Qualifications

 

Education: Undergraduate degree in accounting, recognized accounting designation, an asset

 

Years of experience: 5 years of experience in a similar position

 

Technical competencies:

  • Recognized accounting designation an asset;
  • Experience in a service company (essential);
  • Experience in a project-based accounting environment;
  • Experience in an ERP environment;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint advanced tools;
  • Excellent knowledge of French and English, oral and written.
