General Responsabilites (Goal and Objectives):

Reporting to the Vice President, Rolling Stock, the project manager is responsible for the technical and financial management of the projects for which he is responsible. He works together with various SYSTRA Canada departments. He is responsible on a daily basis for the implementation of projects in a timely manner, according to schedules.


Specific Responsibilities/Tasks:


  • Ensures that the goals and objectives of the projects for which he is responsible are achieved, as part of the Rolling Stock Division.
  • Ensures adherence to policies and work standards for projects for which he assumes direction and responsibility.
  • Develops and sees to the respect of the budgets for each project, supervises the project at the financial level by carrying out a control of the costs.
  • Plans, organizes, administers, reviews and evaluates the work of the people under his responsibility.
  • Prioritizes and allocates resources available to various projects, reviews and evaluates projects and timelines, makes recommendations and executes changes at the operational level to ensure the quality of the services rendered.
  • Periodically monitors projects and assesses financial impacts, quality and profitability;
  • Communicates regularly with clients to inform them on progress, coordinates with government agencies, external consultants, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Provides technical advice, prepares periodic reports and performs related work as required.
  • Provides technical advice regarding rolling stock procurement.
  • On-site and workshop follow-up on the fabrication and installation of components or systems.
  • Follow-up on tasks assigned to designers, trainees and engineers, and improve design processes.
  • Participate in the preparation of technical proposals.


Internal and external relations:

  • Communicate with all SYSTRA Canada departments (mechanical, electrical and structural).
  • Communicate effectively with customers.


Professional and personal qualifications:

  • Hold a bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical or industrial).
  • 10 to 15 years of experience in the design and management of rolling stock projects in rail transportation (specifically with procurement projects for passenger vehicles and locomotives).
  • Be a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) is essential.
  • Membership in professional associations in other provinces is an asset.
  • Bilingual French and English (spoken, read and written).
  • Have a solid background in the technical side of rolling stock procurement as part of the writing and reviewing of requests for proposals, scope statements, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written, including skills in report writing, technical specifications, and commercial contracts.
  • Be highly motivated and have a solid understanding of management and business development in the consulting field. Have excellent skills as a project manager, mentor and excel at teamwork.
  • Have developed a talent to lead a team and carry out complex and ambitious multidisciplinary projects.
  • Hold a valid driver's license.
  • Flexibility to travel for short periods of time.
