Structural Engineering Lead (Infrastructure)

General Responsabilities (Goal and Objectives):

Reporting to the Vice President, Freight & Mining, the Structural Engineering Lead is responsible for the structural discipline and for meeting all structural needs of the team, which may include the technical and financial management of structural projects under his/her responsibility.

 

Responsabilities:

  • Implement the means and ensure that the goals and objectives of the projects for which he/she is responsible are met;
  • Ensure compliance with policies and work standards for projects under his/her direction and responsibility;
  • Develop and ensure compliance with budgets for each project, supervise the project financially by controlling costs;
  • Plan, organize, coordinate, administer, review and evaluate the work of the people under his/her responsibility;
  • Prioritize and allocate available resources to the various projects, review and evaluate projects and schedules, make recommendations and implement changes at the operational level to ensure the quality of services provided;
  • Periodically monitor projects and evaluate financial impact, quality and profitability;
  • Communicate regularly with clients to inform them of progress, coordinate with government agencies, outside consultants, subcontractors and suppliers;
  • Provide technical advice, prepare periodic reports and perform related work as required;
  • Perform on-site and shop floor follow-up of component or system fabrication and installation;
  • Follow up on tasks assigned to designers, interns and engineers and improve design processes;
  • Participate in the preparation of technical proposals;
  • Act as the engineering expert for all road, rail and other infrastructure projects;
  • Coordinate and provide technical expertise for the preliminary or detailed design of rail and road structures;
  • Drafting of tenders and methodological approaches, cost estimates and work methods;
  • Supervise and be responsible for the production of drawings and technical specifications;
  • Supervise the writing of proposals for bridges and various structures (methodology, cost estimates and work methods);
  • Develop business relationships with clients to develop business opportunities.

 

Professional and personal qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering;
  • 15 years of relevant experience in the design and management of civil engineering projects in rail transportation, specializing in structures and engineering works;
  • Strong experience in inspections and analysis;
  • Be a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ);
  • Membership in a professional engineering association in another province is an asset;
  • Knowledge of AREMA principles and practices is an asset;
  • Be highly motivated and have a solid understanding of management and business development in the consulting field. Excellent project management, mentoring and teamwork skills;
  • Have developed a talent for leading complex and challenging multidisciplinary projects;
  • Bilingual in French and English (spoken, read and written);
  • Flexibility to travel for short periods.
