Overall responsibilities

Provide technical expertise to colleagues or clients for civil engineering mandates in railway structures.

Team member and resource person for service offers and engineering, feasibility, preliminary and detailed studies of railway structures (concrete, metallic), hydraulic structures and retaining walls.

 

Role and responsibilities

Be a resource person for requests related to engineering issues, particularly those concerning civil engineering and structures in the railway field.

Knowledge of various software is essential such as: MS Project, Office Suite, structural software such as SAFI.

Be able to:

  • Contribute to the drafting of service offers and studies in terms of methodology, cost estimates and work methods;
  • Carry out structural railway designs with detailed calculation notes;
  • Develops tender and construction specifications and technical specifications;
  • Perform inspections and structural capacity assessments on railway structures at the national level, and be able to adapt internationally with the various applicable codes and standards;
  • Work alone or as part of a team on various projects and be able to communicate orally and in writing;
  • Provide regular updates on the status and progress of the projects he/she is working on;
  • Availability for short and medium term travel in Canada and abroad, depending on the project. Act as an on-site engineering specialist for a few weeks.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in civil engineering; (structural option is an asset).
Other training - training courses from MTQ (Ministère des Transports du Québec) in structures (modules: design, maintenance, construction/repair, inspection, evaluation). AREMA. (An asset)

Years of experience: At least 10 years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years in designing structures (bridges, trains, highways etc...)

Technical competencies:

  • Experience in site supervision;
  • Experience in the railway industry is an asset

Personal & soft skills:   

  • Good communication and writing skills. Excellent skills and knowledge of Autocad and structural design software;
  • Member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ);
  • Strong autonomy;
  • Fluency in French and functional level of English in order to be able to work closely in collaboration with stakeholders in Ontario.

Internal and external relations

  • Internal: Interact with all employees of the company and provide support for all issues related to the structures.
  • External: Develop business relationships with clients, suppliers and other consultants.
