Department / Team: Civil and Railway Design

Reports to: Civil Design Team Lead


General Responsibilities (Purpose and Objectives):

Be a resource person for railway engineering requests, especially those related to civil infrastructure and provide support to the civil engineering design group with integrated BIM tools such as AutoCAD, Civil3D / Infraworks / Navisworks.


Specific Responsibilities/Tasks:

  • Support the Department of Civil Engineering in the creation of technical drawings.
  • Produce technical drawings from conceptual sketches.
  • Update existing drawings with a minimum of supervision.
  • Support project teams to develop specific estimates amounts for civil work.
  • Perform railroad simulation models internally.
  • Finalize all aspects of track alignment (horizontal geometry and vertical profiles).
  • Provide design solutions for railway stations and their operational feasibility.
  • Design railway structures.
  • Analyze survey data and provide detailed 3D surface models.

Internal: Civil & Railway Engineering Department


College degree in Civil Engineering (DEC) or Building & Architecture or Civil Engineering degree



  • 8-15 years of experience with the latest version of Autodesk (AutoCAD and Civil 3D), Subassembly Composer
  • 8-15 years’ experience in submission of detailed profiles plans.
  • 8-15 years’ experience in volume calculation.
  • 8-15 years’ experience in electronic Lidar mapping type, or equivalent.


Personal Qualifications and other:

  • Commitment to performing high quality work.
  • Independent and able to manage priorities in a multitasking environment.
  • Very good knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • Ability to read and understand survey topographic maps to interpret the various contours and natural obstacles.
  • Ability to interact positively with others in a multicultural environment.
  • Advance knowledge of AREMA (American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association) and its recommended best practices.
  • General hydrology knowledge and its effects on 3D models of rail corridors designed by track design software.


Advance knowledge of AutoDESK Civil 3D and experience in the rail sector, particularly in the alignment track design, would be a valuable asset.


Language Requirements: Ability to communicate in French and English (speaking, writing)
