Mission

 

As part of the implementation of the transport projects of the Intercity & Heavy Rail Business Unit, under the responsibility of the Vice-President, the Engineer, Energy and Electrification – Transport supervises the electrical design studies of transport infrastructures. They are the technical authority in his field of competence. They represent the company in matters relating to energy management with the client. They are responsible on a daily basis for the implementation of the aspects of the project for which they are responsible and ensure that the associated production schedules and budgets are respected.

 

 

Role and responsibilities

  • Responsible for the design, review, quality and compliance of power and traction system related aspects and deliverables for railway projects.
  • Carry out the studies of their trade.
  • Take ownership of the input data.
  • Identify project constraints (access points, environment, etc.)
  • Draw up the power diagrams (equipment plan, layout plans, etc.) and size the low-voltage distribution.
  • Draw up the provisional list of equipment required for all the work envisaged.
  • Draw up the calculation file (balance sheet, distribution calculations, etc.)
  • Draw up the provisional study and work schedules.
  • Estimate the costs of the installations and works.
  • Describe and justify the operating methods used for the work.
  • Comply with the frames of reference and design principles defined in the general hypothesis notes.
  • Manage technical interfaces with other trades.
  • Participate in technical progress meetings.
  • Respect the objectives and procedures in terms of programme, costs, deadlines, safety and quality.
  • Participate in the establishment of internal budgets, identify changes in the programme, participate in the evaluation of impacts in close collaboration with the Project Studies Coordinator.
  • Participate in the operating results (OR).

 

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field.

 

Years of experience: More than 15 years of experience in a similar role, including a minimum of 10 years in power and distribution system design.

 

Technical competencies:

  • Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) and/or the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO), or eligible.
  • Knowledge of AC high voltage and/or DC low voltage railway electrification systems, or knowledge of related medium and high voltage systems in other sectors.
  • Thorough knowledge of electrical switchgear, transformers, transformer stations and protective relays.
  • Extensive knowledge of high and low voltage electrical distribution systems.
  • Knowledge of substation and services including emergency power and uninterruptible power supply (UPS).
  • Ability to perform detailed calculations, drawings, technical specifications, procurement documents, design and installation packages for substation equipment, cables, earthing and bonding.

 

Personal & soft skills:   

  • Fluency in French and functional level of English in order to be able to work closely in collaboration with stakeholders in Ontario
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to work in a team in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership.
  • Ability to organise and plan work.
  • Methodical, rigorous and proactive.
