General Responsibilities (Purpose and Objectives):
As a railway alignment and corridor design lead, provide expert-level support to the design group in AutoDESK Civil 3D
Specific Responsibilities/Tasks:
- In Civil 3D, design mainline and yard track alignments and corridors according to horizontal and vertical geometry design criteria, ranging from conceptual to detailed design levels (5% to 100% design).
- In Civil 3D, design the earthworks and drainage corridor of mainline or yard track using sub-assembly composer in Civil 3D to model earthworks corridors.
- Have experience working in BIM 360 or ProjectWise BIM environments.
- Perform quantity take-offs from Civil 3D or CAD models (cut, fill, ballast, sub-ballast, subgrade quantities etc.).
- Analyze survey data and provide detailed 3D surface models.
- Follow all SYSTRA Canada drawing production methodologies
The Lead Designer will also have the following responsibilities:
- Participate in the drafting and continuous improvement of modeling and drawing procedures.
- Recommend staff assignments according to their specific expertise and various project requirements.
- Evaluate the performance of staff under their responsibility.
- Support trainee engineers/drafters with their designs.
- Participate in the hiring process of personnel.
Internal and External Relationships:
Internal: Civil & Railway Engineering Department
Education:
College degree in Civil Engineering (DEC) or Building & Architecture or Civil Engineering degree
Experience:
- +15 years of railway alignment and earthworks design experience using Autodesk (AutoCAD and Civil 3D)
- +15 years’ experience in earthworks volume calculations.
- +10 years’ experience in handling of LIDAR surfaces and other detailed mapping types,
Personal Qualifications and other:
- Commitment to performing high quality work.
- Independent and able to manage priorities in a multitasking environment.
- Ability to read and understand survey topographic maps to interpret the various contours and natural obstacles.
- Ability to interact positively with others in a multicultural environment.
- Advanced knowledge of AREMA (American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association) and its recommended best practices.
- General hydrology knowledge and its effects on 3D models of rail corridors designed by track design software.
Language Requirements: Ability to communicate in French and English (speaking, writing)
