MISSION |
The mechanical engineer will participate in the design of structures and various mechanical systems and components for rail vehicles (passenger cars).
He or she will carry out analyses, write reports, solve technical problems and support the designers of rail vehicle structural and trim systems.
Under the supervision of the Team Leader, Mechanical Projects, the engineer will perform the following duties:
- Contribute to the development of studies and technical reports to solve train operating and reliability problems or other rail vehicle improvements.
- Contribute to the development of functional requirements and design specifications.
- Support quality control activities, including production inspections and manufacturer audits.
- Interpret modification, manufacturing, assembly and installation drawings for rail vehicle components.
- Reconcile and select materials and components to meet technical and commercial requirements.
- Perform analyses and calculations to verify and document compliance with customer, safety and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in the definition of design requirements.
- Prepare 3D models.
- Review production drawings and material lists.
- Participate, as required, in first article inspections and testing.
- Participate in the development of manufacturing and installation instructions.
- Take on-site measurements and provide technical support for the manufacture and installation of mechanical components or systems.
Qualifications |
Education: Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering
Years of experience: 3 to 5 years' relevant experience in mechanical design (design of 3D models and drawings) and calculation
Technical competencies:
- Member of the Order of Engineers of Québec
- Experience with vehicle, train or bus systems is an asset
- Experience in supporting a production team would be an asset
- Knowledge of 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks, Inventor or Catia
- Knowledge of finite element analysis software (Ansys, Nastran, Femap or others) would be an asset
- Knowledge of FRA, APTA, AAR or Transport Canada standards related to rail vehicles would be considered an asset
Personal & soft skills:
- Fluency in French and functional level of English to work closely with stakeholders in Ontario
- Organized, self-disciplined, self-motivated
- Ability to communicate effectively, collaborate and work as part of a team
- Interest in acquiring and applying new knowledge
- Willingness to travel in Canada and the U.S. on occasion (for short-term trips)
- A valid driver's license is an asset
