Mission:

SYSTRA Canada's Transit Division is an active participant in Canadian and international projects in the field of urban transport (mainly subways, tramways, and electric buses).

Reporting to the Traction Power Lead, the Power Engineer, Medium Voltage Distribution, oversees studies of DC and AC power supply systems for a rail or urban transport network. In this role, he will participate in coordination meetings with various stakeholders, produce implementation analyses, produce plans and specifications, assist in decision-making and, more generally, provide the teams in place with the benefit of his experience.

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, sign and seal plans and specifications (design) for electrical distribution systems (wiring, lighting, power supply, fire alarm, equipment, etc.);
  • Prepare and/or revise the technical and functional specifications to be delivered within the framework of the various Contracts and Calls for Bids,
  • Ensures the realization of various projects of a technical nature by determining work plans, methodologies, schedules, and costs;
  • Plans, organizes, administers, reviews, and evaluates the work of those under his/her responsibility;
  • Coordinates the implementation and follow-up of projects with the stakeholders of the different sections and clients;
  • Researches, designs, analyzes, and recommends various technical solutions in line with the Client's requirements and/or bringing innovation/added value to the technical file;
  • Communicates regularly with clients to inform them of the progress of the work, coordinates with government agencies, external consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers as required;
  • Provides technical advice, prepares periodic reports, and performs related work as required;
  • Performs field or shop follow-up for the fabrication and installation of components or systems;
  • Follows up on tasks with engineers and designers, and improves design processes;
  • Participates in the preparation of technical offers;
  • Acts as an advisor on all matters related to his field of expertise and develops his general knowledge of the Canadian market (subway, streetcar, and bus).

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or other relevant disciplines;
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in similar positions, including 10 years in the design and installation of MV/LV electrical distribution infrastructures;
  • Professional experience in urban transportation, an asset;
  • Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) or eligible;
  • Excellent knowledge of applicable electrical codes and standards;
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Proficient in French (spoken, read, and written);
  • Proficient in English (spoken, read, and written), an asset;
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written;
  • Ability to work as a team player in a multidisciplinary environment;
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership;
  • Ability to plan and organize one’s work;
  • Methodical, rigorous, and proactive;
  • Interest in acquiring, applying, and transmitting new knowledge;
  • Creative and innovative mind.
