Role and responsibilities

General Responsibilities (Goal and Objectives)

Provide a high level of technical expertise in rail engineering, maintenance, associated rail systems and primarily in operations to colleagues and clients.

Knowledge of the conventional rail environment (freight and mining context) is desired.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Be a resource person for rail operations engineering requests, particularly those related to civil and service infrastructure;
  • Be able to manage and carry out rail operations analysis mandates, in particular using rail simulation tools (preferably AnyLogic);
  • Be able to manage and carry out the preparation of the schedule for the phasing of the works;
  • Manage the consulting mandates of his discipline;
  • Participate in the drafting of service offers in the field of railway operations (methodology, cost estimation and work method);
  • Be available to carry out national and international mandates of several weeks or months;
  • Develop business relationships with clients in order to develop business opportunities;
  • Occasionally coordinate and provide technical expertise for the preliminary or detailed design of railway infrastructure, including track alignment, rail yards and auxiliary tracks, earthworks, track structure, and associated drainage.
  • Occasionally perform engineering assessment and design of grade crossing geometry.

 

Internal and External Relations

  • Internal: Interact with all company employees and provide support for rail operations issues.
  • External: Develop business relationships with clients, suppliers and other consultants and leverage this network for ongoing projects and to increase opportunities for client retention or new business.

 

 

 

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's or master’s degree in civil or railway engineering

Years of experience: At least 10 years of experience in track engineering positions, in design and ideally in rail operations analysis

 

Technical competencies:

  • Knowledge of various railway design software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D) and railway simulation software (AnyLogic) (An asset)
  • Knowledge of UIC, EN, CN, CP, Transport Canada and Quebec codes and regulations, and the AREMA guide.

 

Personal & soft skills:   

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Member of the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Quebec (OIQ).
  • Familiarity with working in a BIM environment.
  • Fluency in French and functional level of English in order to be able to work closely in collaboration with stakeholders in Ontario.
