Role and responsibilities

 

Reporting to the Discipline Leader - Traction Energy, the Senior Engineer - MV/LV Electrical Networks plans and takes responsibility for the complete production of technical documents related to the electrification of rail and land transport networks.

  • He/she interfaces with the different disciplines with which the Electrification subsystem is involved (Support Functions, Systems, Civil Engineering) as well as with the owners/concessionaires/operators of the MV/LV networks from which the rail and/or land electrification networks are planned to be supplied.
  • He/she is the main contact for all matters relating to MV/LV networks, both internally at SYSTRA Canada and with partners and Client(s).
  • He/she will develop and maintain a network of contacts within the SYSTRA Group in order to be able to call upon and/or propose services, discuss technical issues, and obtain feedback on similar projects.
  • He/she develops and maintains a technology watch network with the various suppliers of MV/LV energy equipment/products and carries out a mission of improvement/research and development of technological solutions meeting the needs of Canada. (Cooperation with the CSA and participation in IEEE catenary workshops for the development of the normative reference system, partnership with universities).
  • He or she assists the Head of discipline in the context of the responses to calls for tender for the various electrification opportunities on which the Passenger Transport Division is positioned.
  • With the support of the Head of Discipline, he or she makes the most of his or her expertise and is actively involved in the team's development, with the aim of structuring it in a development context.

 

Qualifications

 

Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical/electrotechnical engineering or related field

 

Years of experience: Minimum 10 years of significant experience on MV/LV electrification projects at national and/or regional level within provincial operators and/or engineering firms and/or companies in charge of electrification contracts/projects on behalf of these operators.

 

Technical competencies:

  • Responsible for the production and/or review of documents Plans and specifications (Power balance, Provincial network connection study, Single line diagrams, Layout plans, Civil engineering guide plan, Routing principles, Cable section calculation notes, Traction simulation, Traction logic, Power supply and Sectioning diagrams, ...)
  • Previous experience in electrical traction networks (750Vdc, 1500Vdc, 1*25kVac, 2*25kVac) is an asset. An internal SYSTRA training program aimed at acquiring Power Traction skills and interfaces with the Railway System will be provided to the person as part of his/her integration
  • Must be registered with the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) but any other Canadian accreditation will be considered
  • Technically coordinates the Energy interfaces with the leaders of the various subsystems involved
  • Takes responsibility for the analysis of offers from potential suppliers and writes the relevant recommendation reports
  • Participates in the cost estimates of the Energy subsystem for the projects (CAPEX, OPEX)
  • Participates in the definition of the workload plan for the Electrification discipline and takes measures/arrangements to meet it
  • Participates in the various weekly project reviews in which he/she is involved
  • Mastery of standards and norms applicable in Canada (CSA, IEEE, NFPA, IEC, EN)
  • Mastery of AutoCAD and a software for dimensioning protections and cables (ETAP type).
  • Knowledge of CAD software (AutoCAD Electrical or SEE-electrical) and 3D software (REVIT or equivalent) an asset.
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office, Teams, SharePoint. Experience with Electronic Document Management platforms (such as Aconex) an asset.

 

Personal & soft skills:   

  • Proficiency in French and English (read, spoken, written)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to write reports and technical specifications
  • Possess a strong team spirit
  • Be autonomous while being transparent to his/her hierarchy
  • Rigorous, involved and serious person
  • Be open to increasing competence and proactive in terms of technological monitoring in his/her field of expertise
  • Able to adapt to unpredictable situations and/or program modifications and to know how to organize oneself in periods of heavy workload in order to respect the fixed objectives
  • Mobile to carry out short-term assignments in Canada and/or abroad.
