SYSTRA is seeking a Sr. Overhead Catenary Engineer

Location:  New York or Philadelphia 



  1. Manage assigned project work including scope, schedule, and budget and provide timely, quality milestone reporting.
  2. Plan and design catenary systems and structures, following construction, client, federal, state, and local standards and laws, and follow industry standards associated with railway OCS design, materials, construction, and operation.
  3. Analyze and review the design requirements to ensure match with customers' specifications.
  4. Follow QA/QC policies and practices and Identify possible quality and safety issues within the scope of the project.
  5. Provide technical advice regarding design, construction, or program modifications.
  6. Works within and communicates across a large multi-disciplinary team working on large railroad projects with fixed termination, auto-tensioned, single wire, and compound catenary designs.
  7. Takes technical lead with engineers and designers in preparation of:
    1. design drawings, calculations, specifications, and cost estimates for electrified railway overhead contact system (OCS) design projects.
    2. prepares catenary layout plans, structural erection diagrams (SEDs), and catenary profiles.
    3. makes engineering computations and structural analysis associated with railway overhead contact systems.
  8. Prepares OCS designs for traction power systems in accordance with railway and industry standards.
  9. Performs site investigations and walkdowns in substations and along railroad tracks.
  10. Works on testing, commissioning, and construction related service activities.
  11. Frequent interaction with supervisor and other staff.
  12. Mentor junior staff
  13. Review and seal design drawings.
  14. Assist with technical proposals for new projects and help develop cost proposals based on client specifications


  1. BS Degree in electrical or structural engineering.
  2. Minimum of ten years of relevant experience
  3. P.E. License (preferable)
