SYSTRA Newcastle is looking to recruit a Principal Engineer due to ongoing success and substantial work portfolio, working on some of the biggest development opportunities across the North East and Yorkshire and Humber.

 

The successful candidate will support the delivery of a wide range of multi-disciplinary highways and drainage projects for public and private sector clients across the region.

 

The work covers all aspects of design and management from masterplanning and option appraisals through to detailed design and site supervision. It is essential the candidate has the ability to project manage and technically lead on schemes.

 

The candidate will be required to:

  • Lead technical delivery of highway projects;
  • Act as a technical reviewer and approver on designs,
  • Project manage schemes with control over project budgets;
  • Manage junior staff in the preparation of scheme layouts using AutoCAD, Civil3D and the interpretation of DMRB other appropriate standards.
  • Undertake and oversee completion of designs using AutoCAD and the production of calculations, reports and specifications;
  • Ensure work produced is technically accurate and delivered in accordance with the appropriate standards;
  • Manage the production of scheme deliverables;
  • Liaise with other offices and specialist disciplines;
  • Engage proactively with the Client to develop agreed project objectives;
  • Plan and manage your work and the work of junior staff to meet project needs; and
  • Assist with/preparing fee offers for agreement with client.

 

Skills and Experience

 

  • Engineering related qualification, degree or equivalent.
  • Desirable to be Chartered Engineer and membership of an appropriate recognised body.
  • Experience in civil engineering design and delivery on a range of multi-disciplinary projects involving highway and infrastructure. 
  • Excellent knowledge of DMRB and the interpretation of design standards.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and to lead and mentor junior staff and develop their skills.
  • Ability to develop and agree scopes and manage the internal technical supply chain, including budgets, programme and quality of deliverables within set time frame.
  • Ability to contribute and prepare bids and tenders.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work within a team environment.
