Role and responsibilities |
The GO Expansion program is the largest transit infrastructure program in Canadian history. The GO Expansion Program will transform rail services in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA), providing two-way all-day GO train service and improved passenger experience with quieter and faster electric locomotives. The GO Expansion program includes Early Works, Off-corridor station, and infrastructure upgrades, as well as an On-Corridor program to deliver new tracks, platforms, facilities, grade separations and electrification.
The MCS team has been appointed as Program Delivery Partner (PDP) to Metrolinx to help deliver the GO Expansion program and transform Metrolinx capability to deliver large programs in the future.
The Construction Director (CM) will work closely with senior Metrolinx Directors to lead a Construction Management Division within the Metrolinx organization. The Division will lead on construction oversight of over 50 live rail projects across the GTA.
The Construction Director will drive a culture of health, safety and wellbeing excellence and lead transformation of best-practice construction delivery. They will be required to proactively engage with Delivery Directors and Vice Presidents to review work plans, and work with the teams to develop resolutions that are best for program. Technical Management Expertise:
The key technical competencies required to perform the role well are outlined below:
- Significant experience leading and providing direction to Construction & Project Delivery teams on high-profile and high value projects.
- The ability to lead, engage, motivate, and coach others. To act as a role model and inspire and empower others. Competent to mentor and coach at levels within MCS and the wider Metrolinx organization.
- Leading negotiations with third parties
- Create and deliver persuasive and engaging presentations to wide range of audiences in our industry.
- Lead and strategize collaboration models, both internally and externally.
- Manage client relationships effectively.
- Respectfully listen to others and considers all views presented.
- Puts team success above own interests.
Technical Competencies Required:
- Experienced (15+ years) Construction Director in the rail sector i.e., Stations, Track, Bridges, Overhead Catenary Systems, Signalling and Communications.
- Experience leading large, multi-disciplinary teams.
- Detailed understanding of construction methodology, innovative methods of delivery, technology, planning, delivery, site logistics.
- Commercial and detailed understanding of construction contract law and an understanding of multiple contract types.
- Good oral, written communication, and presentation skills
- Stays up to date with key industry/professional trends through networking and Continued Professional Development (CPD) and ability to update colleagues & clients on industry trends.
- Proficient in office technology, software, and applications.
- Well-developed decision-making skills
- The individual will take ownership to identify, solve and overcome challenges, whilst keeping other abreast of developments
- This individual is expected to deliver results, striving to exceeds the clients’ expectations.
