Overall responsibilities


Responsible for the preparation and writing of studies, technical and design reviews, installation and migration methodology reviews, and program level management of testing and revenue service commissioning of signaling systems on conventional railways.



Role and responsibilities


  • Technical evaluation of technologies and systems proposed by contractors for project solutions. Prepares and delivers reports for the client (customer).
  • Reviews CAPEX based on the technologies and system proposed as well as annual OPEX for the system to be installed.
  • Reviews feasibility study followed by the preparation of design criteria and specifications for the system proposed.
  • Evaluates tenders (bids) submitted by potential contractors.
  • Responds to tender offers received by the client.
  • Supervises the contractor/supplier and supports the customer during the system design and installation implementation phases.
  • Assists the Testing and Commissioning of new equipment. Evaluates the operational performance of the system.




Education: Bachelor’s degree in electrical, automation or software engineering is an asset.


Years of experience: A minimum of 15 years in railway and transit signaling systems, preferably with a major railway company.


Technical competencies:

  • Must have a practical management experience of signals, specifically in ERTMS.
  • Expert understanding of the functional and operational requirements of the signaling systems.
  • Expert in systems processes and design, theoretical timing analysis, operational scenarios, reliability and performance analysis.
  • Safety oriented, good understanding of the vital principles. Capable to identify safety related hazards considering system failure analysis.
  • Good knowledge of CENELEC, IEC, and IEEE standards.
  • Knowledge of AREMA standards and North American signaling systems: Conventional Rail Signaling, PTC & ETCS. 
  • Knowledge of CBTC is a plus.

  • Acceptable for short term and medium overseas posting.
  • Good verbal and written skills in English (French is an asset).


Internal and External Relationships

  • Internal:  Must interface with all departments and be familiar with all systems within the GO Expansion Delivery Partner.
  • External: Must be familiar with Government and Regulatory procedures.  Must have deep knowledge of Class 1 railroad signaling systems and equipment. Must be able to interface with Owners, operators, consultants and contractors, as well as the suppliers of signaling systems.
