Role and responsibilities

Working with and reporting to the Safety Director, the Safety Inspector will hold the following responsibilities:

 

  • In conjunction with the client organization, support occupational safety, health, and well-being strategies. Collaborate and influence the client team to implement and maintain the OSHW program.
  • Coordinate day-to-day safety activities.
  • Maintain and facilitate safety training programs for project employees.
  • Produce various required health and safety reports and input data for reporting.
  • Support the development and maintenance of the safety program for the project.
  • Work with the safety team to develop best practice guides, training, presentations, briefing packages, and deliver them to the appropriate target audience based on their role/responsibilities within the program.
  • Assure the proper delivery of occupational safety, health, and well-being initiatives.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections/audits of the job sites, public areas, adjacent areas, take necessary and timely corrective actions to eliminate unsafe acts or conditions, and fulfill the needs and expectations of the client.
  • Report violations of compliance or regulatory standards to the project interested parties as appropriate or required.
  • Collect reports required for records and evaluations of the performance of safety programs.
  • Ensure timely reporting of incidents.
  • Ensure that corrective and preventative actions (CAPA) related to incidents, observations, audits, and inspections are tracked and completed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that CAPAs are followed up and are effective.
  • Ensure that all contractors and subcontractors' employees comply with job site safety rules and regulations.
  • Verify that all applicable client and regulatory policies and procedures have been implemented on the project sites.
  • Supply information for HSE KPIs to the Safety Director/Manager to promote continuous improvement initiatives on a monthly basis.
  • Perform any additional duties deemed necessary to support the deliverables and key activities during
  • Annual Service Plans
  • This position requires full-time presence at the project. No Remote Working

 

Technical Competencies

  • Excellent computer skills and working knowledge of regular office software such as Office 365, Visio, Outlook, etc.
  • Experience in developing safety programs and facilitating safety training courses.
  • Incident investigation experience.
  • Field safety audit and inspection experience.
  • Knowledge of OHS legislations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills.
  • Very experienced in meeting schedule expectations and delivering work on time.
  • Experienced with technical knowledge of safety procedures.
  • Experienced with multi-disciplinary rail and transit projects, and/or complex civil infrastructure projects in brownfield/urban environments with adjacent infrastructure as it relates to safety.
  • Well-organized with superb time management skills.
  • The position requires honesty, dependability, and the ability to be relied upon, responsible, and fulfill

obligations.

Qualifications

Education: Diploma or certificate in Health and Safety, or equivalent training and experience

Years of experience: Minimum three (3) years of direct onsite safety experience

Technical competencies:

  • Professional designation/Certification is an asset – NCSO, CRSP, CHSC, or equivalent
  • Experience in Railroad and/or transit construction projects is an asset
