SYSTRA now have a unique opportunity to join us at a strategic leadership level as Discipline Lead for Track / PWay Infrastructure Design. The role will play a significant part in driving forward our offering in this space and delivering to a high profile and important suite of design projects. Our key Engineering hubs for Track are York, Manchester and Birmingham but with our hybrid/flexible working model the right person will have significant opportunity for balancing office presence with homeworking. The Discipline Lead will adopt the role of functional line manager of the Track discipline, as well as being deployed in the delivery of projects.

This is a key role that underpins the growth of our dynamic, high performing UK delivery organisation, blending technical and commercial awareness with strong communication and people management skills.

 

MAIN DUTIES:

  • Technical Leadership of discipline and assurance of production
  • Set the strategy for the discipline, including setting, and achieving the strategic team goals.
  • Client engagement and work winning.
  • Discipline resilience and growth responsibilities.
  • Leadership of the discipline including managing Team Leaders within the discipline.
  • Accountability and assurance of production.
  • Management of the capability and experience of the UK discipline team.
  • Maintaining a competence framework for the discipline as part of a wider SYSTRA Ltd competence matrix.
  • Responsible for recruitment, training, and development of staff in the discipline.
  • Safety leadership in the discipline, ensuring monthly cascades are attended, championing close call reporting, demonstrating openness and commitment to improve safety.
  • Overall management of the health, safety, and wellbeing of staff in the discipline.
  • Cascading of business communications through the discipline.

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Proven experience with leading large teams in a ‘matrix’ organisation and / or leading significant engineering teams on a major project / programme relating to the Track discipline.
  • HNC/HND or degree in Civil, Mechanical or Railway Engineering with IEng/CEng membership of an industry recognised professional body
  • Proficient in permanent way engineering alignment design and track components specification.
  • Knowledge of multi-disciplinary issues associated with permanent way design.
  • Knowledge of construction principles and standards including RSSB Group Standards, Network Rail GRIP Process and Company Standards.
  • Knowledge of track engineering contract conditions and safety standards including CDM and CSM-RA.
  • Positive and enthusiastic leader and team player
