Main Function of Job

The key responsibility for a Geotechnical Digital Modeller role is to support the Geotechnical Team in day to day development, establishment and implementation of BIM within the Geotechnical Team on the various projects. The Geotechnical Digital Modeller is required to possess strong computer CAD/BIM and technical skills to support and oversee the production of 3D/2D dimensional models, technical and quality checking and control, coordination and constructability analysis. The Geotechnical Digital Modeller must also have a knowledge of Geotechnical Engineering solutions.

 

Main Duties

Working in collaboration with our designers, the Geotechnical Digital Modeller will be involved in a variety of tasks such as:

  • Support the Geotechnical Team in day to day BIM implementation activities.
  • Provide progress and performance updates on fortnightly and monthly basis.
  • Undertake the role of Model Manager.
  • Undertake the role of Lead Engineer for the Geotechnical Team as required.
  • Oversee and develop where applicable analysis, calculations and 3D Design models and extract 2D geometry for review and submission.
  • Implementation of CDM and design requirements
  • Produce 3D/2D dimensional models required for drawing preparation, reporting and presentation.
  • Prepare engineering drawings e.g. general arrangements, layouts, profiles, sections etc
  • Ensure model(s) are delivered in accordance with the agreed level of detail. information requirements and CDE protocol.
  • Perform quality assurance and control checks on models and ensure geometrical, non-geometrical information and technical compliance with the Project requirements.
  • Export, federate, perform clash detection and provide visual walkthroughs of models.
  • Review, monitor and report on the development of clash interference and fully coordinated models.
  • Update 3D/2D models in accordance with instructions given by the Geotechnical Lead for internal and external Design coordination, technical and value engineering activities.

 

Experience

Essential

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in Design.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in Digital Modelling.
  • Knowledge of multi-disciplinary Design workflows and understanding of 3D coordination process.
  • Background either from a Consultant or Contractor on Infrastructure Transportation Project. 
  • Experience with either International and/or British BIM Standards.

 

Skills

Essential

  • Possess excellent English written skills.
  • Possess excellent English oral communication skill with an ability to form effective relationships with Project delivery team, Client and Contractor under time pressure.
  • Excellent working knowledge of all PC based Windows environments and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Proficient in a range of authoring, scripting, design review, coordination, simulations and collaboration applications e.g. Microstation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD, Navigator, ProjectWise, etc.

 

Special Circumstances

Essential

  • Flexibility in working hours will be required to meet the demands of the role.
  • Ability to travel to Client sites and other SYSTRA offices will be required.
  • Able to undertake overseas assignments where required.
  • Perform other duties assigned by their line manager from time to time.
