The role will be aligned to some of the most high-profile rail infrastructure projects in the UK and presents a fantastic opportunity for growth within a thriving organisation. The role can be based from our York, Manchester or Birmingham offices with significant scope for flexibility and homeworking.



Main Duties:


  • Act as the Contractor’s Engineering Manager (CEM) or Design Manager and lead the technical design delivery of rail and infrastructure projects.
  • Take responsibility for the integration of multi-discipline design teams for the delivery of designs to programme.
  • To act as Client contact on technical issues and opportunities.
  • Review and enforce compliance with Heath, Safety and Welfare regulations and other relevant legislation e.g. Common Safety Method, Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
  • Continual review of engineering management procedures to ensure compliant delivery of projects to governance.
  • Review the project technical scope to ensure that all technical disciplines that are required to complete the scope of work are represented during the production of tender proposals and project delivery.
  • Continually ensure that the technical delivery satisfies the project remit, and that this is confirmed through requirements management.
  • Responsible for ensuring the resolution of all design interface conflicts.
  • Facilitates regular design meetings with all disciplines to review technical progress.
  • To secure repeat business through proactive client management.
  • Deep understanding of contract conditions, cost control and planning information requirements.
  • Provide line management support, including development of staff to achieve their professional objectives.


Knowledge and Skills:


  • Ideally BEng/MEng or equivalent.
  • Ideally membership of or working towards of a relevant professional institution.
  • Significant experience within the railway industry, the majority of which has been focussed on managing the technical delivery of multi-disciplined projects.
  • Good knowledge of civil engineering design and construction principles and standards for NR.
  • Clear understanding of applicable industry legislation including involvement with CSM & CDM
  • Good knowledge of BIM and understanding of its application on projects.
  • Ability to develop and maintain Client and 3rd party relationships.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Team working; demonstrate effective working/communicating across teams within the company to ensure delivery of projects.
  • Self-motivated team player; able to work with the minimum of supervision
  • IT Computer literate – specifically CAD, Microsoft Office packages.
