With an expanding workload comprising a great mix of long-term framework agreements and individual structure projects for a range of clients across the UK Road and Rail bridge market our Bridges team are now recruiting an Assistant Bridge Engineer. The role can be based ideally from our York, Glasgow or Birmingham offices with extensive flexibility to work from home.
We are involved across the full bridge life cycle from initial concept development through to detail design and construction support; ongoing asset management including minor repairs, structural inspection and assessment, repair and strengthening; and ultimately design for removal or reconstruction. As an assistant engineer you will gain the opportunity to be involved across all types of projects, taking increasing levels of responsibility as you gain in experience and confidence. You will be involved in all aspects of the work of the team, from planning site inspections to delivering reports, calculations and drawings in support of bridge designs and assessments.
Main Duties:
- Work under the direction and supervision of assigned senior engineer
- Prepare calculations, reports and specifications as required in the preparation of design work.
- Supervise the production of drawings.
- Manage delivery of projects – take responsibility for own areas of work to meet agreed project deadlines and assist in the identification of resource required for delivery
- Actively engage in team and personal training activities
- Identify scope change items.
- Maintain CPD log and Personal Development Plan along with progression of ICE/IStructE training agreement
Experience required:
- Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
- A foundation of experience in Bridge Engineering or structural Engineering in a Transportation Infrastructure environment
- Attention to detail and a desire to grow and develop
- Ability to work in a collaborative multi-discipline design team
- Ability to complete assigned tasks with supervision
- Ability to travel to client sites and other SYSTRA offices will be required
