SYSTRA currently have an opportunity for an Assistant Engineer – Overhead Contact Systems (OCS) to join our engineering team in either York, Birmingham or Reading, working across a challenging and exciting range of key rail infrastructure projects. This position within our OCS team will suit a developing engineer, including those part way through an apprenticeship who can demonstrate strong interpersonal skills combined with commercial awareness and the ability to play their part in a dynamic high-performance team.

 

The Assistant Engineer – OCS will provide engineering and CAD support to the Lead Engineer on a range of OCS design projects. They will assist in the production of design deliverables including cross sections, layout plans and other deliverables required to achieve the required scope and quality. The role will also require liaison with interfacing disciplines from other railway systems and supporting the Lead Engineer on projects to ensure project budgets and programmes are achieved whilst taking an active role in ensuring safe design practices are adhered to.

 

Main Duties

  • Assist with the design of Contact System solutions for engineering projects in accordance with client requirements, technical standards and legislation;
  • Achieve the scope agreed with the Design Manager/Project Co-ordinator regarding the effective delivery of projects to current engineering and safety standards;
  • Achieve personal and project targets including utilisation, delivering projects to budget and programme;
  • Develop knowledge and gain further experience through a personal development plan to be agreed with line manager;
  • Maintain good relationships with all external parties to enhance the reputation of the company.

 

Essential Experience

 

  • Professional qualifications: minimum HNC or equivalent in railway or mechanical engineering;
  • Experience designing and delivering OCS detailed designs;
  • Proficient at computer aided design (CAD) including Bentley MicroStation;
  • Knowledge of safety standards/legislation including CDM and CSM-RA;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Experience with Bentley ProjectWise desirable.
