With ambitious growth plans, this is an exciting time to join SYSTRA Ltd as we continue to develop and raise our profile in the UK with the recruitment of an Assistant Project Manager. The role will sit within our high-performing Project Management Office, focusing on design delivery of flagship rail projects across the UK. The role will work from home initially with long hybrid working from either our York or Birmingham offices and suit a developing project management professional.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, at all levels within the organisation, to define and achieve mutual understanding of the scope.
  • Take on responsibilities for the project(s) duration, cost and quality activities, in line with Business Process and Procedures whilst also adhering to all contractual obligations.
  • Produce reports in line with the internal governance and contractual requirements of the project.
  • Ensure application of thorough risk and issue management across the project(s), instigate mitigation actions, identify contingency plans and manage items through to conclusion.
  • Ensure effective communication to the project teams, internal and external stakeholders, partners, suppliers and customers.
  • Manage proposed changes to project parameters – e.g. scope, budget, schedules.
  • Monitor the quality of project deliverables and ensure project objectives are met.
  • Conduct project meetings and attend programme meetings where required.
  • Establish effective working relationships with all key stakeholders and gatekeepers.
  • Solve problems creatively, yet be able to work analytically to overcome issues.
  • Ensure that projects comply fully with all statutory and regulatory provisions including all health, safety, environment and CDM Regulations
  • Maintain project cashflow and ensure that all forecasting is robust and accurate.

 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience ideally within the Rail industry and of delivering projects to time, cost and quality.
  • Membership of The Association for Project Management and/or membership of a relevant professional institution and/or relevant demonstrable experience.
  • Demonstrable decisiveness to resolve project issues and or timely escalation and identification of risks and priorities.
  • Facilitation and workshop experience.
  • Experience of different project management approaches e.g. agile and waterfall.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with membership/professional body roles, purposes, and activities.
  • Well-developed planning and organisational skills including scope and schedule management.
  • Risk and Issue management experience.
  • Finance and cost control management experience.
  • Outstanding communication and inter-personal skills.
  • Effective negotiation skills.
  • High-level of IT literacy, proficient user of Microsoft Office tools Microsoft Office, and ideally Sharepoint, Projectwise and MS Project.
