SYSTRA are looking to expand our Signature Team in the UK, working on high profile infrastructure projects such as Crossrail and HS2, we are building on our 50 years of success in the UK by growing our team and looking for passionate people to deliver projects across our portfolio.

 

We are now seeking to strengthen and grow our Engineering team in our Birmingham office, initially working as part of our Main Works Civils High Speed 2 project team, by recruiting an experienced CDM Manager.

 

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a range of experience within the Civil Engineering/Transportation/Infrastructure sectors.

Main Function of Job

 

We currently have an opportunity for an CDM Manager to join our growing systems team in York. This position will suit a committed and experienced CDM Professional who can demonstrate the ability to lead and ensure the compliance of a project with regards the requirements of the CDM Regulations 2015.

 

The CDM Manager shall provide vital support to both the HS2 Project and the internal SYSTRA Systems team.

 

Main Duties

 

As a CDM Manager you will be accountable for:

 

  • Working with SYSTRA and Client Projects to ensure compliance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 within the Pre-Construction Phase, through the effective supervision and assessment of the design process.
  • Undertaking regular monitoring and inspection of company projects from a CDM perspective to report on levels of compliance and identify lessons learned and opportunities for improvement.
  • Providing input to SYSTRA focus groups where requested (Via the Systems Manager) including Technical Board, Safe by Design.
  • Promote effective Design Risk Management throughout the company or allocated project.
  • Facilitation of Hazard Identification, Hazard Review and Hazard and Operability Workshops as well as other CDM focussed workshops and meetings.
  • Provide guidance and Management on issues involving CDM and general construction activities as well as other regulatory requirements relating to SYSTRA portfolio of works (multi-sector construction)
  • Assist the System Safety Team in the working with SYSTRA and Client Projects to ensure compliance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 Regulations through active monitoring and audit
  • Assist the System Safety Team in the to provide advice on issues involving CDM and participate in Safe by Design initiatives within the company
  • Deliver CDM and risk-based training internally within SYSTRA and any allocated projects

 

Knowledge and Skills

 

  • Highly knowledgeable and experienced in the successful application and management of CDM in a multi-disciplinary Railway project environment (Client, Designer and Principal Designer duties.)
  • Highly Knowledge in Risk Assessment and Design Risk Management process and techniques
  • A NEBOSH Construction (or similar) and/or design Certificate.
  • Effective communicator able to chair and control multi-disciplinary meetings
  • Able to manage and plan your own workload effectively
  • Able to foster high levels of co-operation and co-ordination between project teams and individual members
  • Able to carry out their duty on both Complex Multi-Disciplinary and Simple projects working alongside existing SYSTRA Designers and external designers where applicable.
  • Able to audit and inspect internal projects and processes
  • Ability to co-ordinate and work on a global scale with interfaces with designers from around the world expected
  • Ideally membership of or working towards membership of a relevant professional institution e.g. IOSH, ICE, APS
  • Experience within the railway industry working at a similar level (Principal Designer / Senior Designer / Engineer level).
  • Strong levels of experience and knowledge of engineering design and construction principles and standards (Rail industry an advantage)
  • Solid understanding of the General Principals of Prevention and its application and promotion through the design phase
  • Experience of general construction activities and methods
  • Good knowledge of engineering design standards for the UK Rail Network and British and European Standards
