 SYSTRA are looking for Rail Systems Apprentices to support the growing portfolio of work within the Systems Practice. The Rail Engineering Apprenticeship provides the opportunity to achieve a Level 6 degree qualification providing a wide appreciation of the rail sector and the option of specialising in either of the following disciplines: Rail Track; Rail Electrification/Overhead Contact Systems; Rail Electrical, Mechanical or Building Services.  We provide a warm welcome and encourage applications from a diverse range of people who can enrich our company.




The primary role of an Apprentice is to provide technical support to project teams by undertaking specialist and technical tasks that support the overall objectives set by the Lead engineer. The main duties are to:

  • To work effectively and contribute to engineering solutions by the correct use of resources and time. This includes an understanding of project management systems, tools and techniques as they are applied to the design and construction process.
  • Support proposal development and help deliver workpackages within projects
  • Execute tasks to quality standards, to time and to budget
  • Record and present information clearly
  • Undertake block/ day release to gain a BEng (Hons) in Rail Engineering
  • Assist with on-site inspections and surveys where appropriate


Entry requirements


  • Applicants require five GCSE’s at grade A – C (4-9) or above including Maths and English
  • AND
  • 112 UCAS tariff points at Level 3(equivalent to BBC at A-level).
  • Direct Entry Applicants have completed a relevant level 4 qualification
